Description

Traction systems for suburban electric trains, metro and regional trains are supplied as a complete set. It includes a traction converter (an inverter with a brake chopper unit, a relay unit and a control unit), traction motors, a filter reactor, a line contactor (disconnecting) box, a surge arrester and a driver's controller. The product is an equivalent of the traction electrical equipment of electric trains and metro cars, and it can also be considered for rolling stock modernization.

The main feature is vector control based on stator flux. It gives smooth acceleration and braking, and the ride is more comfortable for passengers. The systems are designed for a minimum of maintenance and combine high functionality with a moderate cost. This allows an operator to take traction, auxiliary power, doors and the control system from one manufacturer.

The traction systems have worked for many years in a wide range of conditions, including hot and humid climates and cold regions. Deliveries include traction inverters and motors for Singapore MRT cars of series C151, C151A, C151B and C751B (IGBT drive since 1999). The manufacturer has worked on railway electrical equipment for more than 110 years. The path has led from rheostatic and chopper control of DC motors, through inverters on power transistors and GTOs, to IGBT converters, and in recent years to drives based on SiC devices.

The composition of the set is selected for the type of rolling stock. The inverter with a brake chopper unit controls the motors in traction and braking modes, the filter reactor smooths the current at the converter input, the line contactor box disconnects the converter from the contact line, and the surge arrester protects the equipment from line surges. The driver's controller sets the driving mode. The drive works both on suburban routes and on metro lines with frequent acceleration and stops, where smooth control is noticeable to passengers.

An important advantage is in-house production of power semiconductors. The manufacturer produces IGBT modules, hybrid and full SiC modules and HPnC modules, which are used in traction converters. The traction systems are complemented by auxiliary power converters (APS), electric door drives and a train control and monitoring system (TCMS) from the same manufacturer. The railway equipment is built at plants in Japan, as well as in Canada and the US.
