Description
The Avelia range covers high-speed trains with a maximum service speed of 200 to 350 km/h. According to the manufacturer, it is the broadest high-speed train portfolio on the market. The trains are built as single-deck and double-deck, with or without car-body tilt technology. The company has more than 40 years of experience, with more than 1700 trains sold (more than 2200 trains worldwide run with Avelia technology) in 24 countries, crossing 20 borders.
The trains are adapted to different track gauges, power supply systems, car-body widths and capacities, with a full choice of interiors, seat pitch and finishes. They comply with local and international standards (TSI), are fitted with the on-board ERTMS system in Europe and run on four traction power supply systems. Interiors are offered in standard, first and business class, with children's areas, shops and restaurant cars. The climate control system copes with harsh winters as well.
The Tiltronix option (Avelia Liberty) tilts the car body in curves by up to 8°, raises speed in curves by 30% and shortens journey times on existing lines without major infrastructure investment. The articulated architecture with fewer bogies reduces weight and energy consumption. According to the manufacturer, the Tiltronix system pays for itself in five to six years, and less braking before curves reduces energy losses. Passengers have Wi-Fi, power sockets, reclining seats with individual lamps and flexible luggage racks for skis, bicycles and oversized baggage.
Avelia Horizon is a new-generation double-deck train (TGV M) for SNCF Voyageurs, including 30 trains for Eurostar (ordered in 2025) serving five countries and the Channel Tunnel, with a four-system Mitrac traction converter and a 25 kV 4.5 MVA transformer. Avelia Stream is a versatile platform, including a Nordic version for harsh conditions. Avelia Liberty is intended for North America and is assembled in the USA. Pendolino is built in Italy (26 trains for NTV), and Zefiro Express is represented by 45 trains for Västtrafik (Sweden) with a high level of winter protection. The traction equipment (Mitrac Power, Mitrac Transformer, Mitrac Drive) is made by the company itself. According to the manufacturer, Avelia Horizon has the lowest cost of ownership per seat.
