Description
Bogies are designed to the local railway standards of the country of operation, for different track gauges and axle loads, with different speeds and climatic conditions in mind. The versions include motor bogies with Mitrac Drive traction drives of different topologies. According to the manufacturer, this is the widest range of bogies in the industry.
Flexx Urban runs under Citadis light rail vehicles at 100 km/h in North America. Flexx Eco is fitted under metro, commuter, regional and high-speed trains. This lightweight bogie with inboard axleboxes delivers best-in-class ride quality and low life cycle costs, and on the Avelia high-speed platform it also allows carbody tilting. The manufacturer calls its light rail bogies the lightest on the market, and lower mass reduces track wear and energy consumption. Inboard axleboxes also reduce bogie mass and track loading.
The portfolio includes separate systems. Flexx Smart handles curve protection, carbody tilting and floor level alignment with the platform. Flexx Monitor tracks the condition of the bogie and the track, and its data can be used to plan repairs based on actual condition. Flexx Consult covers wheel–rail interaction studies and development of wheel profiles for a specific customer. Development is carried out by two competence centres, in France and in Germany.
Production capacity is 10 000 bogies per year, more than 600 engineers work on the designs, and there are more than 20 bogie production sites worldwide, including production in Astana. Service includes repair of frames and components, overhaul of bogies of its own and other manufacturers, spare parts, life cycle management and TSSSA technical support and spare parts supply contracts.
More than 11 000 bogies have been serviced for more than 100 customers at OEM quality. Maintenance is simplified by a wide range of spare parts, and a network of component centres on five continents keeps service close to the customer. When selecting a bogie for a specific train, speed, track gauge, axle load and drive type are taken into account. Bogies are produced both for passenger rolling stock and for locomotives.
