Description
Citadis is a family of trams and light rail vehicles. According to the manufacturer, it is the leader of the light rail segment: more than 8000 vehicles have been ordered or are in service in 140 cities in 30 countries, and the platform has a history of more than 30 years. The portfolio covers trams, light rail vehicles, streetcars and tram-trains for urban and suburban lines, for existing networks and new lines, including as part of turnkey systems.
The modular concept lets the customer configure the tram to the infrastructure and the requirements of the city, namely exterior design and dimensions, layout, seating and lighting. Capacity can be increased later by adding sections, and vehicles can be coupled into trains with a total capacity of more than 20,000 passengers per hour in one direction. Citadis multi-section trams are 100% low-floor, carry up to 310 passengers and are designed for climates from the tropics to winter. The articulated Citadis Classic is intended for existing European networks and runs at up to 80 km/h.
For operation without overhead lines the manufacturer offers a set of solutions (APS, SRS, energy storage) that preserves historic districts and avenues. The driver assistance and environment recognition systems ODAS and COMPAS improve safety. Ecodesign gives 25% lower energy consumption, 95% recyclability and 98% recoverability. According to the manufacturer, a tram uses 4 times less energy than a bus and 10 times less than a car.
Citadis X05 operates in Sydney and Nantes (61 new-generation trams), 130 low-floor trams have been delivered to SEPTA (Philadelphia), and there are also Berlin, Brussels, Dubai, Lusail (Qatar), Caen, Duisburg and Vienna. Dualis tram-trains run in France. For Duisburg the Citadis Classic is 34 m long and 2.30 m wide with a capacity of 200 passengers. The traction equipment of Citadis is the company's own (Mitrac), including permanent magnet motors. Wide doors speed up boarding, the continuous low floor eases access, and the cabs are ergonomic. The manufacturer supports customers from design to the end of the vehicles' service life. Citadis can also be supplied as part of a turnkey tram system together with track, power supply and signalling.
