Traction and auxiliary electrical equipment for electric locomotives (IGBT, 1.5/3 kV DC, 15/25 kV AC)
The manufacturer designs and produces traction and auxiliary systems for electric locomotives operating from DC overhead lines of 1500 and 3000 V and AC lines of 15 kV 16.7 Hz and 25 kV 50 Hz. The converters are built on high-voltage IGBT modules. The equipment is installed on locomotives for express, fast passenger and freight trains and is also supplied for modernization.

Description
The company presented its first traction IGBT converter in 1995, and showed its first converter on SiC MOSFET in 2015. The locomotive set consists of traction and auxiliary converters and a control system. Multi-system versions are designed for all four networks, from 1500 V DC to 25 kV 50 Hz AC, and are installed on locomotives of express, fast passenger and freight trains. The design is modular, so the system is configured to the requirements of a specific customer, and individual modules are easy to remove for maintenance or repair. The lower weight of the converters also eases the design of the rolling stock itself.
The most difficult part of a three-system locomotive is electromagnetic compatibility and suppression of interference for railway signalling systems in every country where it runs. The company solved this task on the Emil Zátopek electric locomotive, whose electrodynamic braking works in all electrification systems. Regenerative and rheostatic braking is available with any supply. Locomotives with the company's equipment comply with current standards, including TSI.
A separate direction is fleet modernization. The dual-system electric locomotive 363.5 received a new traction transformer and completely new AC and DC electrical equipment with IGBT control of the traction motors and auxiliary drives. The machine was rebuilt from a single-system locomotive of series 163 for the lines of SŽDC, ŽSR and MAV. The traction motor power increased to 925 kW, an oil-free compressor with an asynchronous motor appeared, and the doors of the cab and machine room received better sealing. For the electric locomotive 759.002 "Kyklop" the company supplied IGBT converters of the electrodynamic brake rated 500 kW, 900 V DC and 900 A with liquid cooling and a CAN interface.
The traction equipment is checked in the company's own test center. There the compatibility of the entire traction chain is tested, from the transformer and converter to the motor and gearbox, and at the development stage electromagnetic and thermal calculations are performed. The company directs on average 10 % of annual turnover to new products, and more than 200 specialists work in the technical departments. The manufacturer does not publish rated powers of the series converters, and parameters are agreed for a specific locomotive. The equipment is supplied both for new machines and for upgrading the fleet already in service. The same manufacturer also makes traction drives and motors for electric multiple units and passenger coaches.

Questions and answers
Which supply systems does the traction equipment for electric locomotives work from?
The converters are rated for 1500 and 3000 V DC and for 15 kV 16.7 Hz and 25 kV 50 Hz AC. Braking is regenerative and rheostatic in all supply systems.
Is the equipment suitable for modernizing existing electric locomotives?
Yes. On the locomotive 363.5 the traction transformer and all AC and DC electrical equipment were replaced with IGBT control, and for 759.002 "Kyklop" electrodynamic brake converters of 500 kW, 900 V DC, 900 A were supplied.
Which standards do locomotives with this equipment comply with?
Locomotives with the company's equipment comply with current standards, including TSI. Electromagnetic compatibility with railway signalling systems was worked out on the three-system locomotive Emil Zátopek.
