DEL45 / DEL35 and HD300 / HBR700 diesel-electric and hybrid locomotives
DEL45 and DEL35 diesel-electric locomotives have an AC transmission rated at 3,356 and 2,610 kW. The HD300 and HBR700 hybrids draw traction power from a SCiB lithium-ion battery, which a low-power diesel generator keeps charged. They are used on non-electrified main lines, in yards and on industrial track.

Description
The manufacturer built its first diesel locomotive with electric transmission in 1934. Since then several hundred diesel locomotives and sets of electrical equipment for them have been delivered to Zambia, Brazil, New Zealand, Malaysia and Japan. The range has two lines. These are diesel-electric locomotives with AC transmission and hybrid locomotives with lithium-ion batteries.
In the diesel-electric machines the main alternator, the rectifier and VVVF inverters supply asynchronous traction motors. An AC drive is easy to maintain, and vector control gives precise regulation of tractive effort. The DEL45 has 4,500 hp (3,356 kW), a Co-Co axle arrangement, a mass of 120–150 t and standard gauge. The DEL35 develops 3,500 hp (2,610 kW), weighs 96–120 t and runs on standard or narrow gauge. The speed of both is up to 120 km/h. Deliveries include the Class 29 for KTMB (Malaysia), 20 freight diesel locomotives of 2,580 kW, Co-Co. The manufacturer has also built the electrical equipment of DF200 locomotives for Japan Freight Railway and radio-controlled diesel locomotives for steelworks.
The main traction source of the hybrid locomotives is a SCiB lithium-ion battery, which a low-power diesel generator keeps charged. The HD300 shunting locomotive for Japan Freight Railway has been produced in 31 units. It delivers 500 kW at the rim and a tractive effort of 20 tf, has a Bo-Bo arrangement, a mass of 60 t and a speed of 45 km/h (110 km/h during transport). On battery power alone the locomotive hauls a train of 1,300 t. The traction motor is a PMSM, and the modular design simplifies maintenance and later battery replacement.
The HBR700 version develops 700 kW at the rim (battery 800 kW, diesel 330 kW), is 15 m long, weighs 80–100 t and runs at 60 km/h. Hybrids reduce fuel consumption, NOx emissions and noise, and return braking energy to the battery. Traction converters for diesel locomotives and hybrids are built on the same IGBT platforms as for electric locomotives. The locomotives work on mainline freight services over non-electrified lines, in stations and on industrial track.
