TGPW — synchronous permanent-magnet traction generator with liquid cooling 155–550 kW
TGPW is a series of liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous traction generators rated 155–550 kW. They are fitted to the diesel-generator power units of hybrid trains and locomotives, where minimum mass and volume matter together with high efficiency. The generators work together with a traction converter.

Description
In the TGPW, excitation is created by the permanent magnets of the rotor. The generator needs no separate excitation source and delivers power as soon as the rotor starts to turn. Unlike the asynchronous TGE, where the field is created by the converter, here the field is always present, and voltage appears at the terminals with the first revolution of the rotor. The output voltage is rectified and regulated by the traction converter. Liquid cooling of the stator gives a high power density, so the machine also works in closed underfloor compartments. The housing is enclosed, with a degree of protection of IP6K9K. The design is vibration-resistant, and the generator is flange-mounted directly to the diesel engine.
The manufacturer publishes little data for a full description of the series, so the parameters are collected from reference lists of individual projects. The versions have 8 or 16 poles. Rotational speed reaches 2100 rpm, and the mass of the versions ranges from 186 to 1130 kg. The manufacturer stresses the lower mass of its traction generators at high power density, and hybrid HMU trains need exactly a vibration-resistant machine. The manufacturer links operation in any environmental conditions to its own insulation system, which it has been improving for decades.
According to the reference lists, the TGPW 48-36-8 generator has a power of 330–400 kW and a voltage of 596–2703 V at a mass of 810–850 kg. It is fitted to Newag Vulcano diesel trains, Newag 36WEh hybrid electric trains and Gmeinder DE60 and DE75 hybrid locomotives. The TGPW 60-30-8, rated 528–550 kW at 1560–1850 V, weighs about 1100 kg; it is installed on the Bombardier TRAXX DE ME multi-engine locomotive for DB Regio and on the TŽV Gredelj diesel train for HŽ. The smallest, the TGPW 50-11-16, delivers 155 kW at 1240 V and 360 rpm, weighs 186 kg and works in the last-mile module of the Siemens Vectron locomotive.
The series covers hybrid and diesel-electric trains, dual-mode locomotives with a diesel last-mile module, and shunting and service locomotives. The last-mile module allows an electric locomotive to cross a non-electrified section on a diesel generator. The generator is designed for the characteristic of a specific diesel engine and the train's operating modes. Each one undergoes type and routine tests at the manufacturer's own station in Wiener Neudorf. The Long-Life Value Service is available for the whole service life, with an exchange pool, repair and modernisation.
