TRS digital traction drive control system
TRS is a modular digital traction drive control system. The TRS controller is installed directly in the power section container of the traction converter. The systems have operated since 1996 on trams and trolleybuses after reconstruction and on new vehicles.

Description
The company produces and supplies traction drive control systems and control systems for the hydraulic brake units of traction vehicles. It also offers turnkey cooling, design and consulting services. The same manufacturer makes static converters and central power sources for onboard networks of rolling stock. In this portfolio the TRS handles the traction drive, that is, commands to the converter power switches and feedback signals.
The controller is built as a cassette system. The central control unit with a signal processor is supplemented by input-output boards and power supply boards, so the configuration is assembled for a specific converter. The cassette design simplifies board replacement. The controller is powered at 24 V DC / 2 A, and communication with other vehicle systems runs over CAN, Ethernet and RS-232. The controller sits directly in the power section container, next to the switches it controls.
The controller processes the signals of the IGBT power switches and actuators, that is, it issues commands to the converter and monitors their execution. It processes speed sensor signals and protects against wheel slide and wheel slip, when the wheel loses adhesion during braking or acceleration. Wheel slip protection limits the torque during acceleration, and wheel slide protection acts during braking so that the wheel does not slide along the rail and form flats. Logic and analogue inputs and outputs, through which the controller is connected to the vehicle equipment, are processed separately. In this way power section control, wheelset protection and communication with other systems are combined in one unit.
TRS systems have been used since 1996 in reconstruction projects and in new vehicles for transport operators in the Czech Republic (Prague, Ostrava, Olomouc, Plzeň, Brno), Germany (Berlin, Heidelberg, Freiburg), Austria (Vienna, Salzburg) and Ukraine (Kyiv, Odesa), as well as other cities in the Czech Republic and Europe. For Ukrainian operators this means that TRS operating experience already exists in Kyiv and Odesa. When trams and trolleybuses are modernised with a transition to transistor IGBT control, the TRS is taken as a ready-made controller with a proven service history. The manufacturer does not publish performance characteristics of the controller, and parameters are specified for the converter project.
