The converters supply the car's onboard network, charge the storage batteries and supply single-phase and three-phase consumers. Description
The POLL chargers are built on a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) topology with a switching frequency of up to 100 kHz. The high frequency allows planar transformers and inductive elements to be used, so the mass and dimensions of the units are small. The inverters have digital control, and the circuits are worked out on computer models before a prototype is made. Galvanic isolation has insulation of up to 4000 V (rms), and the housing is made to IP65. The units operate at ambient temperatures from −40 to +50 °C with passive or active cooling and connect to other systems via CAN, RS-485 and Ethernet.
One unit supplies the DC onboard network, battery charging and the single-phase and three-phase consumers of the car. Converters and CES are supplied for locomotives, suburban electric trains and trams of the group. For Ukraine, POLL made the external power supply unit BVN-02-UA for the 8Ev electric trains (2011). The rated input voltage of the unit is 570 V DC (±15 %), and the external supply input is 3 × 400 V 50 Hz. The output for the chargers delivers 570 V DC / 15 A, and the single-phase 230 V 50 Hz / 10 A output feeds a service socket. The unit mass is 48 kg. When the main supply is absent, the BVN-02-UA switches the sources automatically and feeds the chargers from the external network, so the train batteries are charged from a stationary network.
Another example is the water-cooled static converter MKB-04.04 for Thermo King air conditioners on buses. It delivers 15 kW (the MKC version up to 25 kW) and is supplied from 3 × AC 150–600 V or DC 600–700 V, with a mass of 7 kg. The series is produced at a volume of 300–600 units per year. In purpose these units correspond to onboard auxiliary converters and charging units for electric trains, trams and locomotives.
The group's traction and onboard equipment is tested at the test center of the company's traction division, where the compatibility of the entire traction circuit is worked out, from the transformer and converter to the motor and gearbox. Electromagnetic and thermal calculations are performed during development. On average the traction division directs 10 % of annual turnover to new products, and more than 200 specialists work in its technical departments. The equipment is supplied both for new cars and for the modernization of the fleet in service.
