Description
The company is among the largest producers of traction motors for diesel locomotives in the world, with plants in Erie, Pennsylvania. DC motors of the GE 752 series were installed on locomotives for decades. Dash 8 and Dash 9 carried six 752AH motors or four 752AG/AH. Evolution and ES and C series locomotives receive AC induction traction motors with an inverter per axle.
According to the manufacturer, the installed base of the company exceeds 30,000 traction motors. They operate in locomotives, drilling rigs, open-pit mining dump trucks, dredgers and ship propulsion installations.
Separately from new locomotives, the company supplies AC and DC traction motors rebuilt to the manufacturer's specifications. The program covers GE 752, E8, AH, AF and other types, as well as EMD D77, D78, D87 and D87B motors. A unit exchange pool operates, under which the depot returns a worn motor and receives a rebuilt one. The motor is returned to service to OEM specifications, so it is installed on the same locomotive in place of a new one. The rebuilding production is certified to ISO 9001:2008 and AAR M-1003.
Spare parts for depot repairs of traction motors are supplied: bearings, leads and lead kits, brushes, armatures, field coils, gears, inspection covers and gasket kits. New and rewound field coils, armature rewinding kits and OEM-style insulation are available. Spare parts are also supplied separately when a depot repairs motors on its own.
For Ukraine this is a source of traction motors and spare parts for locomotives of the same platforms that Ukrzaliznytsia already operates. The manufacturer does not publish motor nameplate ratings and voltages on its website, so they are clarified by motor type and locomotive. A request for a rebuilt motor or spare parts requires the motor type, the locomotive model and, where possible, the serial number. Production of new GE752 DC motors for drilling rigs was discontinued from 31.03.2024.
