Traction electrical equipment for EMU/DEMU/BEMU multiple-unit trains
The manufacturer supplies complete traction electrical equipment for multiple-unit trains, namely electric (EMU), diesel-electric (DEMU) and battery-electric (BEMU) units. The equipment is designed for various AC and DC overhead line voltages. The AC traction inverters are built on high-voltage IGBTs.

Description
The equipment set is modular, so it is easy to adapt to the special requirements of the operator. Trains can have two, three or more cars, with one or two traction sets per motor car. The traction equipment is mounted on the roof or under the floor, as the customer decides. The range covers all three types of traction power supply, namely the overhead line, a diesel generator and traction batteries. For battery trains the company also makes the cooling system for the traction batteries. The modules are easily accessible for maintenance and repair, and the lower weight of the equipment makes the car structure lighter. The company is among the first manufacturers of traction IGBT converters and already produces converters on SiC MOSFETs.
Braking energy recovery works on both DC and AC networks. When supplied from an AC network, the EQ input converter, that is an active rectifier, keeps the quality of the consumed energy high in all operating modes. On a DC network the built-in braking resistor absorbs all of the braking energy if there is no other consumer on the line able to accept it. In this way the train brakes electrically even when the network does not take the energy.
The equipment is installed in the manufacturer's own trains. The double-deck 471 CityElefant runs on 3 kV DC and has 2000 kW per three-car train. The 575 series runs in Lithuania, the 671 in Slovakia, and the dual-system 675 for Ukrzaliznytsia has 4000 kW, reaches 160 km/h and is rated for ±40 °C. The list also includes the single-deck RegioPanter and 26Ev for Arriva and the battery RegioPanter BEMU. For Ukraine, a company of the same group also supplied the BVN-02-UA external power supply unit for 8Ев electric trains.
The traction equipment is tested at the company's own test centre, where the compatibility of the whole traction chain is checked, from the traction transformer and converter to the motor and gearbox. Electromagnetic and thermal calculations are performed during development. On average the company allocates 10 % of annual turnover to new products, and more than 200 specialists work in its technical departments. The manufacturer does not publish separate data sheet figures for the converters, since the set is selected for a specific train. The equipment is supplied both for new trains and for modernisation of the fleet in service.

Questions and answers
What types of multiple-unit trains is the equipment supplied for?
For EMU electric trains, DEMU diesel-electric trains and BEMU battery trains. Trains can have two, three or more cars, with one or two traction sets per motor car.
How does braking work on AC and DC networks?
Regenerative braking operates on both networks. On a DC network the built-in resistor absorbs the braking energy if there are no other consumers on the line.
Which trains already use this equipment?
The double-deck 471 CityElefant (2000 kW), the 575, the 671 and the 675 for Ukrzaliznytsia (4000 kW, 160 km/h), as well as the RegioPanter, 26Ev and RegioPanter BEMU.
