109E Emil Zátopek — multi-system electric locomotive, 6400 kW, 200 km/h
The Emil Zátopek of the 109E series is a universal multi-system electric locomotive with a Bo'Bo' axle arrangement and a continuous power of 6400 kW. It runs on 25 kV 50 Hz, 15 kV 16.7 Hz and 3 kV DC networks, so the operator does not change the locomotive at border stations. The machine was created for uninterrupted operation on corridors of the Czech Republic, all neighboring countries and Hungary.

Description
The modular electrical part is assembled for the required set of supply systems. The 109E and 109E2 versions run on 3 kV DC, 25 kV 50 Hz and 15 kV 16.7 Hz, while the 109E3 is powered only by 15 kV 16.7 Hz. The maximum speed of the 109E and 109E3 is 200 km/h, and for the 109E2 it is limited to 160 km/h. Electrodynamic regenerative braking works in all electrification systems. The locomotive is prepared for installation of the European ETCS/ERTMS system, complies with TSI and is suitable for winding lines, so it can be operated throughout Europe.
Four axles in two bogies give the Bo'Bo' axle arrangement, and each axle has its own traction motor. The tractive effort is 275 kN at starting and 220 kN continuous, and the mass of the machine is 88 t. The track gauge is 1435 mm, the wheel diameter 1250/1170 mm, the length over buffers 18,000 mm and the body width 3080 mm. According to the manufacturer, the four-axle drive makes the Emil Zátopek the most powerful locomotive in its class. The body shape reduces aerodynamic noise and drag at high speeds. Fiber composites, similar to those used for Formula 1 cars, are used in production.
The traction converters and motors are made by the company itself, so the traction circuit is developed in one set of hands. The Czech tradition of locomotive building at the manufacturer's plants is long, and the 109E became the first Czech locomotive of the new post-revolutionary era. The electric locomotives haul long-distance passenger trains of České dráhy at speeds up to 200 km/h and work in ZSSK in Slovakia and in Germany. The modernization of earlier locomotives of series 362/363 and 380/381 is carried out by a separate company of the group and is not included in this item.
The group carries out testing and homologation on its own in an accredited test laboratory. Welding of bodies and components is certified to EN 15085-2, and the management system complies with IRIS (ISO/TS 22163), ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. The IRIS certificate covers the design, development, production and maintenance of traction and other rail vehicles, from the body and fittings to the running gear. For operation, the Datarail online monitoring, predictive diagnostics and full service throughout the life cycle of the machine are offered.
