Description
CAplus is a new generation of totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) motors that has extended the CA family. The motor is intended for loads with a quadratic torque characteristic: centrifugal pumps, compressors and fans. According to the manufacturer, its efficiency exceeds 97 % at a power factor of cos φ = 0.89, one of the highest on the market.
The rating per IEC is from 225 to 2200 kW, and per NEMA up to 2600 kW. The voltage is up to 6.6 kV, the frequency is 50 or 60 Hz, with 2, 4 or 6 poles. IEC frame sizes are 315–500 mm, and the weight is 2.7–8.8 t. Cooling is IC411, the degree of protection is IP55, and the noise level is below 80 dB(A). Mounting is horizontal, IM1001, and for the IE5 version also IM1003. Standard explosion protection is Ex nA / Ex ec II B.
There are four basic versions. General Purpose Ultra High Efficiency (IE5) has a copper rotor cage. General Purpose High Efficiency (IE4) has an aluminium cage. The third version fully complies with API 541 (5th edition) and is intended for the oil and gas industry. The fourth, Demand Performance, gives the best efficiency and cos φ for the most demanding customer specifications, for example Shell DEP 33.66.05.31-Gen.
The welded steel frame is designed for aggressive environments. Flexible rotor bar shaping allows the machine to be matched precisely to the task. Roller bearings with grease lubrication have a basic life L10h of 40 000–80 000 hours. If required, separate line and neutral terminal boxes per phase are fitted, and C5-M class coating per ISO 12944 is applied. Materials in the design are used economically, in line with circular economy principles.
Applications are pumps, fans and compressors in the oil and gas and chemical industries, power generation and water supply, including Zone 2 hazardous areas. The enclosed housing with external cooling separates the internal air from the surrounding environment, and the shaft-mounted fan blows air over the frame fins. The IE4 or IE5 version is chosen depending on project requirements. The efficiency level and the set of options are selected according to the customer specification and the type of facility.
