Description

SM series motors are made as a drive for submersible borehole pumps, pumps with lower water intake, seawater lift pumps and underwater machines. Hence the three main sectors are water supply, mining and offshore. The rotor is of squirrel-cage type, and the shaft has a mechanical seal. The winding can be rewound, so a damaged motor can be repaired.

Depending on operating conditions, the housing is made of cast iron, bronze or stainless steel. Installation is vertical or horizontal. The high-voltage version is designed for a speed of up to 3 600 rpm and a pumped medium temperature of up to 75 °C. Low-voltage motors of the series for voltages up to 1 000 V are listed as a separate catalog item.

Cooling is based on the modular technology MCT. An impeller on the lower end of the rotor shaft pumps the cooling liquid through the motor, and the liquid is drinking water. Dedicated cooling channels take heat from all sources and transfer it through the housing to the flow of the medium. Additional heat exchanger modules precisely match the cooling capacity to specific conditions. There is no oil in the circuit, so a leak does not harm the environment, and the motor in a medium of up to 75 °C works without derating and requires no maintenance.

MPT (Modular Power Technology) gives up to 100 % more power at the same borehole diameter, so the borehole can be drilled narrower. In the IPM version permanent magnets are built into the rotor, and the induction motor becomes a synchronous one. According to the manufacturer, the average efficiency rises by 4 %, and in the partial load range by up to 7 %, and stays above 90 %. An IPM motor in the frame size of a 45 kW induction motor delivers 100 kW. It works together with a frequency converter. IPM motors combine well with modular MST shaft pumps, in which the discharge pressure is changed simply by adding or removing stages to suit operating conditions.

High-voltage SM motors are fitted to high-power borehole and mine dewatering pumps, including the largest submersible dewatering pumps, seawater lift systems and offshore equipment. Typical sites are water intakes and trunk water supply, mine dewatering and mine closure, and offshore platforms.
