Evolution Series mid-weight locomotives with power from 3300 to 6000 hp for 1000, 1067, 1435 and 1676 mm track gauges. They share the platform of the heavy-haul units but are designed for lower axle loads. The series includes ES30ACi, ES40ACi, ES43ACmi, ES43BBi, ES57ACi and the European PowerHaul PH37ACai.

Description
The model range is designed for railways with limited axle loads, narrow or wide gauge, heat and dust. All machines have AC electric transmission with individual axle control, which holds traction force even on track in poor condition, and an improved cooling system that maintains power under strict emissions limits. The Evolution platform is based on about 8000 locomotives in the world.
The two-cab ES30ACi with a full-width body works in freight and passenger service. The GEVO12 engine produces 4250 hp (3159 kW) or 3300 hp (2461 kW), it has six driven axles, a mass of 135 t at 22.5 t per axle and a 1435 mm gauge. Starting tractive effort is 400 kN, speed up to 140 km/h, head-end power (HEP) for train heating is available, emissions meet UIC 3a, and the operating temperature is up to +55 °C.
The single-cab ES40ACi is built for 1000–1067 mm gauge. Its GEVO12 has 4200 hp (3133 kW), the mass is 123.5–129.8 t (20.6–21.6 t per axle), starting tractive effort is 548 kN and continuous tractive effort is 460 kN. The two-cab ES43ACmi for 1676 mm gauge has a GEVO12 rated at 4500 hp (3356 kW), a mass of 123 t at 22 t per axle, tractive effort of 500/425 kN, an auxiliary power unit and compliance with EPA Tier 2.
The eight-axle ES43BBi with articulated bogies works in heavy freight service on 1000 mm gauge. Its GEVO12 engine is rated at 4500 hp, additional fans are built into the traction motors, and one such locomotive replaces two six-axle DC locomotives. The ES57ACi with a GEVO16 engine is described by the manufacturer as the only 6000 hp locomotive in the world with a 23 t axle load. Its mass is 138 t, gauge 1676 mm, tractive effort 570 kN and speed 100 km/h.
The PowerHaul PH37ACai is oriented to European railways. Its engine meets EU IIIA emissions norms, starting tractive effort reaches 600 kN, and the cab is designed together with the drivers. The structure of the whole series is designed for long-term operation in dusty environments.
