Double-deck passenger cars and push-pull trainsets up to 200 km/h

The company builds double-deck passenger cars and locomotive-hauled push-pull trains running at up to 200 km/h. The high capacity gives a mass per seat at least 25 % lower than that of single-deck cars. The double-deck cars are built by the Finnish company Transtech of the group, and more than 200 such cars operate on Finnish railways.

Description

The push-pull scheme provides a locomotive at one end of the train and a driving trailer with a cab at the other. The driving trailer has a full cab from which the train is driven when the locomotive pushes the train from behind. At the terminus the driver moves to the opposite cab and the train departs back without the locomotive running around or being recoupled. For an operator this means fewer shunting moves and a shorter turnaround of the train at the termini. Push-pull trainsets with double-deck cars have been delivered to Germany (DB Regio, the Nuremberg–Ingolstadt–Munich route), Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and they run on 1435 mm track.

All the cars have an aluminum body and are designed to current safety standards. In a collision the crumple zones absorb the impact and protect the passenger areas. The Finnish cars are built for 1524 mm track and a 25 kV network voltage, from which the onboard systems are supplied. The maximum speed is up to 200 km/h, the body width is 3200 mm and the car height is 5200 mm. Boarding is designed for platforms 550 mm above top of rail, and the door opening is 2100–2200 mm wide, so passenger exchange at stops is fast. These parameters are given specifically for the Finnish cars, and for push-pull trainsets the manufacturer publishes less data.

The range covers double-deck passenger cars, driving trailers with a cab, sleeping cars and restaurant cars. Previously the company also built single-deck first and second class passenger cars, restaurant cars and Bhmpz/Bdmpz international cars. It also modernizes cars already in service. To order, the cars are supplied as separate units for existing locomotives or as a ready push-pull trainset with a driving trailer. The group's plant in Ostrava has a certified quality system for the development, production, servicing, repair and modernization of motor and trailer passenger cars together with their units and traction systems.

The group carries out testing and homologation of rolling stock on its own, in an accredited test laboratory. Welding of bodies and components is certified to EN 15085-2, and the management system complies with IRIS (ISO/TS 22163), ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. The ISO 9001 certificate of the Ostrava plant was issued by DQS. For operation, the Datarail online monitoring, predictive diagnostics and full service are offered.
