Urbalis CBTC (Flo, Forward, Fluence) radio-based metro train control up to GoA4
Urbalis CBTC is a radio-based train control system for metros, trams, light rail and driverless monorails. The Urbalis family runs on 190 metro lines in 32 countries, 67 of them driverless. Shorter headways give up to 30% more capacity.

Description
CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) is a radio-based train control system that determines the position of trains precisely in real time and continuously exchanges data between the trains and the control system. A moving block or an optimised fixed block instead of traditional fixed block sections lets trains follow each other more closely and safely, which raises line capacity, service frequency and regularity.
The Urbalis family is used on 190 metro lines in 32 countries, 67 of them driverless; about 4400 km of track and 5000 cars have been equipped, with more than 30 years of experience. The systems cover all grades of automation (GoA), from driver assistance to fully driverless operation (GoA4), and suit both new and existing lines: high-capacity metros, trams and light rail, automated people movers and driverless monorails. The family includes Urbalis Flo, Urbalis Forward and Urbalis Fluence.
Shorter headways give up to 30% more capacity both with and without a driver, as well as up to 30% energy savings. Overlay deployment on the existing system does not stop traffic, and this is how the capacity of an operating line in Madrid was doubled and the Delhi network was relieved.
Urbalis Fluence has a train-centric architecture in which centralised functions are moved on board and the trains communicate directly (the world's first train-to-train communication). Headways reach 60 seconds, capacity rises by up to 20%, there is 20% less trackside equipment, and fewer controllers and their power supplies in technical rooms; a next-generation supervision system and built-in cybersecurity are added. The systems are deployed quickly and without stopping traffic, which lets the largest cities meet transport needs promptly. Radio communication between trains shortens headways and supports round-the-clock operation. Installation and migration projects have been completed from Mexico to Italy and from Singapore to Canada. For the metros of Ukraine, CBTC is considered a way to shorten headways and automate without building new lines.

Questions and answers
What automation grades does Urbalis CBTC support?
All GoA grades, from driver assistance to fully driverless operation GoA4. The systems suit both new and existing lines.
What capacity increase does CBTC provide?
Up to 30% more capacity both with and without a driver, and Urbalis Fluence adds up to 20% more. Headways in Fluence reach 60 seconds.
Can CBTC be introduced on an existing line without interrupting traffic?
Yes, overlay deployment on the existing system does not stop traffic. This is how the capacity of an operating line in Madrid was doubled and the Delhi network was relieved.
