Warning Spheres, Ø 600 mm aircraft warning marker spheres for overhead line conductors and earth wires of any voltage

The warning spheres of the manufacturer with a diameter of 600 mm make the conductors and overhead earth wires of overhead lines clearly visible to low-flying aircraft and helicopters. The markers comply with ICAO recommendations on obstacle marking and are suitable for lines of any voltage without changing the clearances. The catalogue programme covers conductors with a diameter from 9.3 to 54.8 mm.

Description

According to the manufacturer, the company has developed warning spheres since 1964 and works to make the colour of the markers fade slowly. The spheres are installed near airports and on high spans over rivers, lakes, fjords, valleys, roads, railways, construction sites and pipelines. They are also mounted next to military facilities, police stations, hospitals, on helicopter routes and in other low-flying zones. The markers are fixed on the top conductors, earth wires or on the tops of towers. The task of the marker is simple: it must show the pilot of a low-flying aircraft or helicopter in good time where the conductor runs.

The marker consists of two hemispheres held on the conductor by two bolted clamps. The hemispheres are made of painted polyethylene resistant to ultraviolet and ozone. A special fixing mechanism allows one lineman to install the sphere easily. The clamp is designed so that the material is not deformed when the bolts are tightened, and a stainless steel locking plate prevents the clamp from loosening. The rigidity of the sphere is high, so the hemispheres do not rattle, make no noise and suffer no fatigue damage from vibration over the whole service life of the conductor.

The clamp jaws are made of aluminium alloy with a grooved channel, so the sphere does not slip along the conductor. The plates and screws are of hot-dip galvanised steel. Drain holes prevent rainwater and condensate from accumulating inside. The hemispheres nest into each other, which reduces transport and storage costs. The programme covers conductors from 9.3 to 54.8 mm in steps of 1.3 mm. For aluminium conductors and OPGW cables the manufacturer recommends fitting the spheres over protective spiral rods. Stainless steel bolts are supplied as an option.

The spheres are painted red, orange or white, and there are also two-colour red-white and orange-white versions. The colour is chosen to contrast with the natural background. Where the background changes with the seasons, two-colour spheres are used, or white spheres alternate with orange or red ones, and the line remains visible from the air all year round.
