Overhead line fittings: string coupling and suspension fittings, clamps, helical fittings for OPPC/OPGW, spacers, vibration dampers
The overhead line fittings range covers string coupling and suspension fittings, tension wedge and compression clamps, helical fittings for OPPC and OPGW, spacers and vibration dampers. With them the company supplies complete insulator strings for poles, lattice steel towers and non-standard structures, as well as conductor fittings on their own.

Description
The company makes the fittings as a complement to its own insulators of glass, porcelain, composite and LDPE. The customer therefore receives a string from a single manufacturer, in which the insulator, coupling links and clamps are already matched to each other. Lines on wooden and metal poles, on lattice steel towers and on structures of non-standard shape are fitted out this way. The insulator range to which these fittings belong includes disc insulators of toughened glass and porcelain, composite rods and LDPE pin insulators. If the insulators are already available, only the conductor fittings can be ordered.
Coupling fittings include shackles, eye links, U-clevises, yoke plates and other string links. The conductor is attached with tension wedge or compression clamps. Helical fittings are provided for conductors with built-in optical fibres (OPPC) and for earth wires with optical cable (OPGW). Distance spacers are fitted on bundled phases, vibration dampers on conductors, and conductor joints in the span. The set of links is selected so that the string is assembled with exactly the insulator going onto the line, be it a glass disc, porcelain or composite rod insulator.
For a compact 132 kV line of Electricity North West, the company developed and agreed fittings for the OPPC conductor system. They were supplied together with composite post and strain insulators. The design office solves similar tasks relying on a large library of drawings and standard string layouts for different conductor systems and configurations. 3D design and finite element analysis are used. Even complex cast components for composite crossarms and T-Pylon structures are adapted to specific requirements, and a new design can be verified by testing before tooling is launched.
The factory laboratory performs type, acceptance and sample tests of insulators, fittings and conductor accessories. It has tension and electromechanical testing machines of 500 kN, horizontal machines of 300 and 1000 kN and a 300 kN compression machine. Zinc coating thickness and part dimensions are checked separately, and articulated couplings are verified with BS, IEC and ANSI gauges. Specific sizes and failing loads are selected on request for the conductor, structure type and string configuration.

Questions and answers
Are fittings available for conductors with optical fibres?
Yes, helical fittings are available for OPPC conductors and OPGW earth wires. For a compact 132 kV line of Electricity North West the company developed and agreed fittings for an OPPC conductor.
Can a complete string be ordered together with insulators?
Yes, the company supplies complete strings for wooden and metal poles, lattice steel towers and non-standard structures. Conductor fittings are also available separately.
What tests do the fittings undergo?
Type, acceptance and sample tests on tension machines of 500 kN, horizontal machines of 300 and 1000 kN and a 300 kN compression machine. Zinc coating thickness is also checked and couplings are verified with BS, IEC and ANSI gauges.
