Description
ZEV-R is a control valve with zero fugitive emissions, which the manufacturer calls the first such product in the world. The valve is intended for gas metering and gas regulating stations, gas blending stations and practically any control duty where leaks of natural gas to the atmosphere must be eliminated, regulatory requirements on methane emissions met and zero direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 under the GHG Protocol) reached.
The design eliminates fugitive emissions. The integrated internal actuator removes the need for dynamic stem packing seals, the main leak path of ordinary valves, and the one-piece cast body with no body-bonnet joint has no additional leak paths. External leakage is possible only through the flanges, so the scope of leak detection and repair (LDAR) work is minimal. The maintenance-free concept allows the valve to be welded into the pipeline and installed underground.
Like other valves of the manufacturer, ZEV-R is based on axial flow: the streamlined path prevents erosion and vibration, and the high capacity allows smaller valves to be selected, which reduces weight and carbon footprint. The integrated electric servo actuator gives very precise control and response without dead time. There is no packing friction, and the valve is fully pressure-balanced. The actuator continuously provides diagnostic data on the condition of the valve. Valves up to 24″ are powered from 48 V DC and consume less than 400 W only during movement; at standstill the motor power is switched off. Therefore the valve is suitable for remote sites with solar power or UPS.
The integrated PID controller together with a pressure sensor turns the valve into a self-acting regulator, and a remote setpoint is also possible. The fail-safe position is provided by the customer's power supply unit or UPS. The trim cage is calculated for the duty to minimise noise and cavitation at maximum capacity. Seat tightness corresponds to Class VI, and bidirectional control is possible. Sizes are 6″–24″, pressure classes ASME 150–600, others are made on request. ATEX and IECEx explosion protection certificates have been issued for the valve.
