Description

Cryogenic ball valves are designed for liquefied natural gas and other cryogenic media and are rated for working temperatures from −196 to +80 °C. The design follows standard EN ISO 28921 for isolating valves for low-temperature applications. These are small DN15–DN50 valves for process piping of LNG terminals, regasification plants, LNG filling stations, cryogenic tanks and vaporisers.

The valve is unidirectional: it is installed in the direction of flow and has a relief hole on the inlet side that prevents a dangerous pressure rise in the cavity when trapped liquid evaporates. The extended bonnet moves the stem seal assembly out of the cold zone, keeping the gland working at cryogenic temperatures. All main parts, that is the body, ball, stem, bonnet extension and handle, are made of austenitic stainless steel 316L. The ball seal is PCTFE, a material that retains its properties at ultra-low temperatures, and the gland packing is RPTFE or graphite. The top flange is made to EN ISO 5211 for mounting actuators.

The following connections are available. Female NPT thread to ASME B1.20.1, butt-weld ends to ASME B16.25 and EN 12627, socket-weld ends to ASME B16.11 and EN 12760, flanges to ASME B16.5 and EN 1092-1. Nominal pressures are PN16, 25, 40, 63, 100 and ASME classes 150, 300 and 600. Face-to-face lengths of flanged valves depend on the class, for example DN15 has 130 mm for PN16–40 and 165 mm for PN63–100 and CL600, and DN50 has 230 mm for PN16–40 and 292 mm for PN63–100 and CL600. For weld-end and threaded versions the lengths follow MSS SP-134.

Cryogenic valves, like the rest of the gas range, are produced under the EN ISO 9001 quality system and under the PED 2014/68/EU Directive, module H. Production sites are located in Assens (Denmark), Dzierżoniów and Rogoźno (Poland) and Houston (USA), and sales are made in Europe, China and the USA.
