Description
Trunnion-mounted ball valves with double block and bleed and injection ports, type designation TRQ1, are made at a plant in Houston (USA). The plant has held the API 6D monogram licence (number 6D-0378) and a quality system to API Spec Q1 for decades. The valves fully meet the requirements of API 6D and the Canadian standard CSA Z245.15-17. They are intended for natural gas and propane, distribution and transmission pipelines, bypass lines and hot taps.
The range is from 1 to 36 inches, other sizes on request, full bore. ANSI classes 150, 300 and 600 correspond to maximum working pressures of 285, 740 and 1480 psi. Working temperatures are from −40 to +100 °C. All valves from 2 inches are made with a trunnion-mounted ball: the bottom support takes the force from the pressure and holds the ball in a constant position, while sealing is provided by spring-loaded seats. The valve is fully bidirectional and suitable for above-ground and underground installation.
The body is made in two variants. The fully welded, leak-path-free body is preferred for underground installation, while the three-piece bolted body is repairable and preferred for above-ground use. Seats are self-relieving (SPE) or with the double piston effect (DPE, DIB function), and all valves have DBB. The original PMSS (Primary Metal Secondary Soft) seat combines a primary metal seal, which protects the soft element, provides fire resistance and class D to ISO 5208, with a secondary HNBR seal that provides class A. The seat springs are a set of many small springs for even preloading and reduced torque.
The stem has a four-level barrier of three HNBR rings and a PTFE chevron packing, an additional graphite ring for fire resistance, blow-out protection and an antistatic device. Injection ports in the seats (from 4 inches) and in the stem (from 6 inches) are used for flushing, lubrication or emergency sealing, and from 12 inches they have a built-in check valve. The ball is made of A350 LF2 with electroless nickel plating, the stem of AISI 420, the body of A105 or A350 LF2. Testing is carried out to API 6D, section 10, hydraulic for strength and seat tightness, with an additional air test to ISO 5208 class A. The valves are fitted with gearboxes and actuators.
Valves made after November 2022 comply with the 25th edition of API 6D. Fire resistance is tested to ISO 10497, manufacture complies with DOT Title 49, part 192, and every valve is traceable and has a test report.
