AH — ball valves for gas distribution networks, DN15–DN1000, PS 16 / 25 / 40 bar

Type AH ball valves for gas distribution are designed for a working pressure of PS 16, 25 or 40 bar and sizes from DN15 to DN1000. They are installed on medium- and high-pressure city gas pipelines, in gas regulating stations, and at the inlets of industrial plants and boiler houses.

Description

Type AH ball valves for gas distribution are made at Polish plants and are designed for networks and facilities with a working pressure of PS 16, 25 or 40 bar. These are medium- and high-pressure city gas pipelines, gas regulating stations, and inlets to industrial plants and boiler houses. The manufacturer places emphasis on complete tightness and safety, so the valves use a fire-safe design, advanced stem sealing systems and DBB.

The range covers sizes from DN15 to DN1000. For small sizes (DN10–150), floating-ball valves are used: a screwed or fully welded steel body with external anti-corrosion protection, and a ball between two PTFE or PTFE+C seals, one of which is mounted in a movable holder and preloaded by a spring pack. Such valves are insensitive to thermal expansion of parts and protected against impermissible pressure rise in the cavity (thermal and volumetric relief).

For DN40–1000, trunnion-mounted ball valves are used. The seats are made of PTFE, PTFE+C, POM, PEEK+C, and NBR, HNBR, FKM, FFKM sealing rings are used in movable spring-loaded holders. A closed valve seals by pressing the ball against the inlet seat with the pressure of the medium and the springs. The temperature range from −60 °C (under the EN programme) to +200 °C depends on the valve type and seals.

The DBB system makes it possible to bleed the pressure from the cavity between the ball and the body and to check closure tightness without shutting down the network, in some types regardless of the valve position. Antistatic protection to EN 1983 and API 6D is provided by metal contact between the ball and the body. The stem is sealed with a PTFE+C thrust washer and rings. In the fire-resistant version (EN ISO 10497, marked with the letter f) a graphite ring and metal-graphite elements are added, which keep the valve tight during a fire.

The connection is flanged, weld-end or threaded, and the top flange is designed for part-turn actuators to EN ISO 5211. Operation is by handle, PO-27 planetary gearbox (non-self-locking, two-stage, with end-position stops), or electric, pneumatic, electro-hydraulic and pneumatic-hydraulic actuators. For underground installation, stem extensions, including telescopic ones, and gearbox columns are supplied. Every valve undergoes inspection and pressure testing. Certification is PED 2014/68/EU module H, EN 14141, Fire Safe and SIL 2.

Questions and answers

What pressure and sizes do the AH valves for gas distribution have?

Working pressure PS 16, 25 or 40 bar, sizes from DN15 to DN1000. Small sizes DN10–150 are made with a floating ball, DN40–1000 with a trunnion-mounted ball.

What temperature range do these valves have?

From −60 °C (under the EN programme) to +200 °C depending on the valve type and seals. Seats are made of PTFE, PTFE+C, POM or PEEK+C, and rings of NBR, HNBR, FKM or FFKM.

Is a fire-safe version available and which actuators can be fitted?

The fire-resistant version to EN ISO 10497 is marked with the letter f. Actuators are mounted to EN ISO 5211, and a handle, PO-27 planetary gearbox, or electric, pneumatic, electro-hydraulic or pneumatic-hydraulic actuator is available.
