Description

The division for valve actuators and control systems was created in 2004. It offers standard products and solutions adapted to customer requirements. The programme covers all types of drive: pneumatic, hydraulic, gas-over-oil, direct gas, electric and others.

The actuators have been tested for operation in the temperature range from −60 to +85 °C. Quarter-turn actuators develop torque of up to 500 000 N·m, and linear actuators with a rising stem develop thrust of up to 1 000 000 N. This is sufficient for ball and butterfly valves, as well as for gate valves and control valves of large diameters and high pressure classes on trunk gas pipelines, compressor stations, gas distribution stations and underground gas storage.

The actuators are supplied complete with control systems, hydraulic power units, overpressure safety systems (HIPPS), fire protection and accessories, including for special projects. The group includes a company that has designed control panels and hydraulic power units (HPU) for the oil and gas industry since 1983. The programme is complemented by Masterstation systems. They control, monitor and operate up to 240 electric actuators at critical facilities and pass all actuator information to SCADA/DCS control systems.

The actuators are designed and built at the plant in Rivanzano Terme. It has test areas, benches, climatic chambers for temperature tests and other equipment needed for quality control. Electric, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators are also produced by the plant in Suzhou (China), and the Canadian branch in Edmonton carries out assembly and testing of actuators. On request, standard products can be made in China.

The actuator type is chosen according to the energy source at the site. A pneumatic actuator needs compressed air, a hydraulic one needs a hydraulic power unit, a gas-over-oil one uses gas pressure from the pipeline, and an electric one needs power and control signals from the station system. The final selection by torque, thrust and speed is made for the specific valve. Actuators, control systems and hydraulic power units are ordered together with the valves or separately, depending on the project. Ball and butterfly valves of large diameters need more torque than small ones, so the torque margin is set with the pressure and the medium in mind.
