Description
PERAR Subsea Check subsea check valves are made in two designs, swing (swing check) and axial (axial check); they are designed to API 6DSS, API 6A and API 17D taking customer requirements into account. Neither uses grease or sealant for sealing; both use non-elastomeric seals and metal sealing at the body-cover joint, and forgings comply with API 6A PSL3. The company's API 6DSS license covers subsea check valves.
Swing valves are designed for bidirectional passage of pigs: a stem with a lock-open feature operated by ROV holds the flapper fully open during reverse cleaning. Seats are metal-to-metal with a 3 mm overlay of Stellite 6 or Inconel 625. The seat is made integral with the body and has a slope that gives sealing at low pressure. Remote or ROV control of the lock and a hydraulic actuator are provided. Swing valves from 1/2 to 9 inches are rated for pressure up to 15000 psi, from 10 to 22 inches up to 7500 psi, from 24 to 30 inches up to 5000 psi / 2500 lbs, and from 32 to 48 inches for classes 900–1500. The trim is made of A350 LF2 with Inconel 625 overlay, stainless AISI 410 and 316, duplex, super duplex, Inconel 625 and 718. The stem seal is metal with a TC coating of 0.2 mm.
Axial valves have a streamlined flow path with an extended full-bore body that excludes turbulence, erosion and vibration. Low static pressure in the throat acts behind the disc and creates a pressure difference that eases opening. The valve is stable and responds smoothly to flow changes, and spring return gives fast closing without slam. Gas tightness is to API 6A PSL3G and PSL4. Axial valves are made in sizes 1/2–2 and 4–12 inches for pressures from 900–1500 lbs (3000 psi) up to 15000 psi. The trim (plunger, diffuser) is made of the same materials.
Bodies and nipples are made of A350 LF2, A694 F52–F65 or A182 F22 with Inconel 625 overlay, duplex 22 % Cr, super duplex 25 % Cr, and Inconel 625. Testing includes PR2 cycles, hyperbaric tests in chambers (50 and 450 bar) and bending moment tests. The valves are used on subsea pipelines, manifolds and flowlines of gas fields.

Questions and answers
What sizes and pressures are the swing valves made for?
From 1/2 to 9 inches up to 15000 psi, from 10 to 22 inches up to 7500 psi, from 24 to 30 inches up to 5000 psi / 2500 lbs. Classes 900–1500 are provided for 32–48 inches.
What is the gas tightness of the axial valves?
Gas tightness is to API 6A PSL3G and PSL4. Axial valves are made in sizes 1/2–2 and 4–12 inches, up to 15000 psi.
Why is a lock-open feature needed on the swing valve?
A stem with an ROV-operated lock holds the flapper fully open during reverse cleaning. The valve also passes pigs in both directions.
