Description
Subsea Actuators hydraulic actuators are fitted to ball valves, check valves, slab gate and expanding gate valves and axial valves. Subsea versions are suitable for any depth, both deepwater and shallow water. Topside versions are made for special tasks, including ESD and HIPPS systems with strict reliability requirements, fast closing, high torques and compact installations on platforms. The manufacturer supplies the valves together with its own actuators, so interfaces do not have to be coordinated with third-party suppliers.
Hydraulic actuators for ball valves and check valves are made in two designs. Helical Spline has helical splines, is compact and saves space without loss of functionality. The rack and pinion actuator works on the rack and pinion principle. Each type is available spring return or double acting. On loss of energy the single-acting actuator closes or opens the valve, and the double-acting one leaves it in the last position. Linear hydraulic actuators are intended for slab gate and expanding gate valves. Supply pressure and working fluid are set by the project; the standard temperature range is −10…+70 °C, and an extended range is agreed separately.
Gearboxes are supplied in several types. Quarter-turn worm gearboxes are self-locking, so they hold the valve in the set position, and give a high output torque for ball valves and check valves. Parallel-axis and planetary gearboxes are available, multi-turn ones for gate valves with a non-rising stem and axial valves, normal-axis gearboxes, and linear ones with high axial force. Travel stops are set at the factory.
All versions have a manual override interface for an ROV (classes to ISO 13628-8 / API 17H) or a diver, direct ROV interfaces and a diver handwheel. Pressure-containing, control and wetted parts are made of duplex and super duplex steel, and internal load-bearing parts of high-strength materials. The layout is customized: actuator extensions, ROV intervention fittings, any orientation. Position indicators are local and remote, with single or redundant VDT sensors and limit switches. Protective caps are provided for the stem. Accessories include a manual torque tool and a hydraulic damper. The manufacturer is also developing electrification of subsea actuators.
