Description
PERAR Subsea Ball subsea ball valves are designed to API 6DSS, API 6A and API 17D, taking into account additional customer and project requirements. They are made and tested by the company's separate subsea division in Delebio (Sondrio), which holds API 6DSS and API 17D licenses. The line includes side-entry valves, top-entry valves, fully welded valves and twin double block and bleed valves (Twin Ball DBB) in side-entry and top-entry versions.
The sealing principle does not depend on grease or sealant: metal-to-metal sealing is used between the ball and the seat, and non-elastomeric seals between the seat and the body, which exclude gradual degradation of elastomers over the service life. Metal sealing is provided at the body-cover joint and, optionally, on the stem; in fully welded valves all primary pressure boundaries are metal or welded. Seats are spring-loaded, with a tungsten carbide coating 0.2–0.4 mm thick; sealing is bidirectional and the stem is blow-out proof.
The body, covers and nipples are made of A350 LF2 steel, high-strength A694 F52–F65 and A182 F22 with Inconel 625 overlay, duplex (22 % Cr) and super duplex (25 % Cr) steel, and Inconel 625. The trim is made of the same materials and also Inconel 718. Gaskets are metal BX or Destec, lip seals are PTFE with Elgiloy, chevron packs are PTFE+PEEK, and HNBR AED rings are used for sealing against seawater. Forgings comply with API 6A PSL3.
Valves from 1/2 to 3 inches are made for pressure from 900–1500 lbs (3000 psi) up to 15000 psi, from 4 to 12 inches up to 10000 psi, from 14 to 22 inches up to 7500 psi, from 24 to 30 inches up to 5000 psi/2500 lbs, and from 32 to 48 inches for classes 900–1500. The valves are operated by the company's hydraulic actuator or by a gearbox for ROV, fixed or removable.
At the plant, PR2 cycles to API 6A (1200 cycles) are run, as well as low- and high-temperature tests, sand slurry tests to API 14D, tests with a bending moment up to 3500 kNm, fugitive emission tests, and hyperbaric tests in chambers simulating external pressure of 50 and 450 bar. Packages are qualified for depths up to 3000 m. The valves are used on subsea manifolds, flowlines and pipelines of offshore gas fields.
