Description
Side Entry (End Entry) ball valves have a trunnion mounted ball and a split body of two or three parts joined with bolts. The ball and seats are installed through the ends of the body. This design is manufacturable and rigid, which matters for large diameters and high pressure classes. According to the manufacturer, its experience with this design grew quickly as customers demanded ever more complex products, with large diameters and high classes.
The valve is made to API 6D for pipelines and to API 6A for wellhead equipment. The range to API 6D is ANSI classes 150–600 from 2 to 60 inches, 900–1500 from 2 to 48 inches, and 2500 from 2 to 30 inches. To API 6A, it is 3k–5k from 1 13/16 to 34 inches, 10k up to 16 inches, and 15k up to 11 inches. The bore is full or reduced, and full bore valves are suitable for passing pigs.
Seats are metal with tungsten carbide or chromium carbide overlay, or soft with inserts of PTFE, RPTFE, PCTFE, PEEK, Devlon or nylon. Seat schemes are self-relieving or double piston effect, which allows double block and bleed (DBB) and double isolation (DIB). The valve can be unidirectional or bidirectional. Body materials include low-temperature carbon or low-alloy steel with corrosion-resistant overlay, duplex, super duplex and forged nickel alloys, and electroless nickel plating is used for certain media. Seals use elastomers, thermoplastics, metal and graphite.
Fire safe construction, an anti-static device and a blow-out proof stem are standard. To order, there are NACE versions, a special bore, a body equalising hole, an extended stem and cover for underground installation, a local position indicator and limit switches. For connection there are RF/RTJ flanges, compact or stud, weld ends and a hub. For operation there is a handwheel or gearbox, an electric multi-turn actuator, or a pneumatic or hydraulic quarter-turn actuator.
The valves comply with ANSI, API, ASME, BS, ISO, NACE and PED, and the metal-sealed versions have passed API 6AV1 class II validation. Applications are trunk gas pipelines, compressor stations, underground gas storage, gas processing and platforms.
