Description
A modular range of actuators for ball valves and other 90° quarter-turn valves is used in shut-off devices of transmission pipelines, valve stations, gas stations, onshore and offshore facilities and safety shut-off valves. All actuators are built on the Scotch-yoke (slotted yoke) principle. It matches the torque curve to the valve characteristic, because the maximum torque occurs at the start and end of the stroke, where the closure has to be moved. The output torque reaches 600,000 N·m.
The position indicator is proportional to the stroke, the stops allow precise adjustment of the rotation and take the maximum torque, and polymer-coated bearings need no maintenance. The housing and yoke are made of ductile iron GGG 40, or steel on request and for temperatures down to −60 °C. Tubes and fittings of the control systems are stainless steel, and the control cabinets are of marine design. The basic actuator is produced in eight sizes.
Gas-hydraulic actuators of type G work at 10–150 bar from the pipeline's own medium, type G1 at 10–40 bar. Direct gas actuators KY are rated up to 160 bar, and KY1 is also available. Pneumatic K, K7 and K8 work at 2–12 bar from compressed air or 10–150 bar from the pipeline's own medium, have spring return to the safe position and are used in SIS up to SIL 3. Electro-hydraulic C, C7 and C8 are rated up to 200 bar, have a built-in tank, an accumulator per ASME or PED and SEC100 Ex d electronics. The compact SHC is controlled by an AUMATIC AC01.2 unit, has a 400 V 1.1 kW motor and fieldbus and Bluetooth interfaces. There are also manual actuators with a handwheel, the Y1 actuator with a hand pump and the basic SST actuator, on which a manual, electric, hydraulic or pneumatic module is mounted.
Fast closing takes less than 15 seconds for valves up to 48″. The temperature is −60 to +80 °C (−29 to +60 °C for G1, KY1, Y1), and all main versions are approved for hazardous zone 1. Options: local and remote control, separate adjustment of opening and closing times, a line break detection system, reaction to power failure (ESD), autonomous operation from solar power for up to 10 days, emergency manual pump control and subsea versions. The actuator is tested at the factory together with the valve.

Questions and answers
What maximum torque do Scotch-yoke actuators provide?
Up to 600,000 N·m with 90° rotation. The yoke design gives the maximum torque at the start and end of the stroke, where the closure has to be moved.
What operating pressures do the gas-hydraulic and pneumatic actuators have?
Type G works at 10–150 bar and type G1 at 10–40 bar from the pipeline's own medium. Pneumatic K, K7 and K8 work at 2–12 bar or 10–150 bar and are suitable for SIS up to SIL 3.
In what temperature range and zones do the actuators work?
From −60 to +80 °C, and from −29 to +60 °C for G1, KY1 and Y1. All main versions are approved for hazardous zone 1.
