Description

RZD-R-TC is an axial choke valve with a symmetrical flow path, designed for erosive service. The manufacturer offers it in place of angle choke valves (especially large sizes), rotating disc chokes, globe control valves and control ball valves. The valve works primarily in oil and gas production: it controls well flow rates, handles untreated and wet gas, and throttles the flow by the Joule-Thomson effect at gas treatment plants. The choke can have an emergency shutdown (ESD) configuration.

All of the manufacturer's valves work on the Axial Flow principle, in use since 1955, with a streamlined symmetrical annular channel between the inner and outer body without sharp turns of the flow. The Total Velocity Management® concept controls the velocity of the medium in all zones of the valve and eliminates local high velocities, the main cause of noise, erosion and vibration. The enlarged full-bore body prevents vibration and erosion of the body and trim, and the high durability of the valve reduces the total cost of ownership and the number of unplanned shutdowns. The trim contains a cage and a piston made of tungsten carbide, and in the axial design the cage is protected from direct impact of foreign objects from the start.

A choke is sometimes regarded as a safety device that prevents overloading of the relief system. The self-sealing system gives bidirectional bubble-tight shutoff, and the valve can close quickly in ESD mode. The fully balanced trim allows precise control even at minimum opening and the use of small spring-return actuators on large sizes. The high capacity and wide rangeability suit both well start-up and the late depletion stage, that is, one valve works over the whole process range. For cleaning up dirty wells, trims with large bores are offered, and for the pressure decline stage high-capacity trims with minimum pressure loss. Small actuators and a compact body reduce the footprint of the installation.

Sizes range from 3″ to 20″, pressure classes ASME 600–2500 or API 3000–10 000, larger sizes and pressures are made on request. The valve, trim and actuator are designed individually. Trims are available for liquid, gas and multiphase media with linear and equal-percentage characteristics, along with a fire-safe version and optional low emission Class B per ISO 15848-1. The manufacturer's pneumatic and hydraulic actuators are used, as well as electric and electro-hydraulic ones. The materials provided show axial chokes on the turret of the Norne FPSO in Norway and choke valves for the Porthos CO2 capture and storage project.
