Description
RZD-R is an axial control valve for heavy-duty and critical control tasks in the gas and oil industry: at compressor stations of trunk gas pipelines, gas metering and gas distribution stations, underground gas storage facilities, gas treatment plants and LNG. The manufacturer offers it in place of ordinary globe control valves, heavy ball control valves and angle control valves. All of the manufacturer's valves are based on the Axial Flow principle, in use since 1955. The streamlined symmetrical annular channel between the inner and outer body has no sharp turns of the flow.
The Total Velocity Management concept controls the velocity of the medium in all zones of the valve and eliminates local high velocities, the main cause of noise, erosion and vibration. The flow passes through an enlarged full-bore body without turbulence, and the pressure drop is dissipated only at the trim element designed specially for this duty. Dynamic body noise is minimal, the process is not stopped by erosion, and maintenance costs are reduced. The inherent capacity of an axial valve is much higher than that of a globe valve, so a smaller valve can be selected or the margin can be used to reduce pressure losses.
The pressure-balanced trim gives precise control even at minimum opening and allows small spring-return actuators on large-diameter valves. The wide rangeability makes it possible to use a single valve for the whole process range. The one-piece cast body is 20–70 % lighter than a globe valve. Sizes range from 2″ to 72″, pressure classes ASME 150–2500 or API 3000–10 000, higher on request. Typical applications are special control, severe service (in the axial choke version with a tungsten carbide trim), anti-surge and recycle control of compressors, anti-cavitation duties and Joule-Thomson throttling.
Every valve, trim and actuator is designed for the specific duty, and high-capacity, low-noise and anti-cavitation trims are available. Low emission Class B per ISO 15848-1 is certified as an option, and the design is fire-safe. The manufacturer supplies a full range of its own pneumatic and hydraulic actuators with individual control schemes, as well as electric and electro-hydraulic actuators. According to the manufacturer, axial control valves have been in service on hydrogen and syngas for more than 30 years, and the manufacturer itself won the Gasunie contract for control valves for the stations of the hydrogen network. Versions for water supply and hydropower with NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 certification are also available.
