Controllers of the SO-54SR series control reclosers and circuit breakers of medium voltage overhead lines in networks with telecontrol. They combine protection against phase-to-phase short circuits and earth faults, auto-reclosing, measurement, remote control and fault recording. They are used on 15–30 kV overhead lines in networks built on the Smart Grid concept.

Description
The series consists of several versions. SO-54SR-101-REK provides complete handling of the RC 27 outdoor circuit breaker (THO-RC 27, GVR), and SO-54SR-111-REK and its -1.4 version add protection functions to this. SO-54SR-101-AUT has simplified automation, while SO-54SR-122 with protection automation serves control cabinets of overhead line breakers and indoor breakers. Simpler telecontrol controllers for overhead line points, SO-54SR-901/902 and USP-120/140/142/143, complete the series.
A controller with protection automation functions becomes the basis of control cabinets for overhead and indoor breakers of various types in MV networks. It limits the consequences of earth faults and multi-phase short circuits, performs auto-reclosing, and controls the breaker remotely from SCADA and locally. The protection algorithms have four setting banks, a disturbance recorder is built into the device, and inrush current restraint works on the second harmonic. Discrete signals from the facility are read with a resolution of 1 ms.
As standard, SO-54SR-1xx-REK has an integrated graphic terminal, an LED signalling panel with replaceable label inserts and control buttons. The design is produced in two variants: the first works with an external measuring interface IPR-xxx, the second needs no intermediate circuits. The controller is configured remotely or locally with a dedicated program.
In the recloser control cabinet the controller is installed together with a mobile communication modem, a battery with a charger and local control elements. Communication with SCADA runs as standard over TETRA and/or GPRS/UMTS/LTE in dedicated APNs through an external communication module, using DNP 3.0 over TCP/IP or UDP and IEC 60870-5-104. CDMA2000, DMR, and serial or network dedicated channels with IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-103 and Modbus protocols are also possible.
Reclosers with such controllers perform automatic isolation of the faulted section and restoration of supply in the FDIR functions of the SYNDIS system. They are typically installed on reclosers and automatic sectionalising points of 15–30 kV overhead lines, on trunk lines and branches of distribution networks.
