SO-52v11-SC, SO-52v21-PMS, PCS-500 — backup alarm system for substations

The backup alarm system (RSA) for main control panels of 110–400 kV substations and power plants. The system works independently of SSiN and generates audible, visual and other alarms by set logical dependencies. Personnel receive a signal about an event even when SCADA or the station LAN has failed.

Purpose
backup alarm system (RSA), independent of the control and supervision system
Units
BAS (signal acquisition: MWS, MSS, communication module, redundant power supply), PCS-xxx visualisation panels, KWG-xxx control panel with touch LCD
Design
19″ cassette with LVDS bus
Communication
galvanically isolated interfaces, optical network to SAS

Description

The line includes the central alarm device SO-52v11-SC, the field signalling module SO-52v21-PMS and the SO-52PCS-500-xxxx alarm panels. The SO-52v11-SC module provides central alarm signalling at power facilities of all voltage classes. When an alarm input operates or a group alarm condition is met, the LED of that alarm starts to flash and an audible signal switches on. The Acknowledge button confirms active alarms, the sound stops, and the LEDs change to steady light if the cause has not yet disappeared. The Reset button clears alarms that are already acknowledged, and the Test button checks all LEDs and starts an internal test.

In hardware, RSA consists of three parts. The signal acquisition unit BAS-xxx contains MWS-xxx discrete input modules (MWS-2xx have 32 discrete inputs each), MSS-xxx control and signalling output modules, a communication module and one or more redundant power supply modules. The visualisation unit is one or more PCS-xxx presentation panels with LED signalling. The PCS-101 and PCS-301 panels have 64 RGB LEDs each, and PCS-201 has 10. The KWG-xxx control panel with a graphic LCD screen and a touch panel shows text messages, alarm registers and the event log. The modules are placed in a 19″ cassette with an LVDS bus.

For each alarm the user assigns a priority and an LED colour (red, green, yellow or blue), brightness is adjustable, and a replaceable label is fitted for each LED. Group alarms are built with logical functions in the pConfig program. An external audible or visual signal is switched on through configurable outputs. The PCS-500 panels are produced in the M08, M16, M0808 and other versions with different numbers of signal fields.

The functional units are connected by galvanically isolated interfaces, and the whole RSA can be connected to the SAS substation automation by an optical network. With the station system the central alarm exchanges data over DNP 3.0, PN-EN 61850 or PPM2 via CANBUS/RS-485 and can work in PRP mode. The alarm system is installed separately or in cabinets of station controllers. The SO-52v21-PMS field module collects equipment status signals in the substation field, shows them on its own panel and passes group signals to SSiN independently of SCADA. A separate area of application is substations without permanent personnel with local posts and facilities where alarm redundancy is required.

Questions and answers

For which facilities is the RSA backup alarm intended?

For main control panels of 110–400 kV substations and power plants, as well as substations without permanent personnel with local posts.

How many inputs does the MWS-2xx module have?

The MWS-2xx discrete input module has 32 inputs. The number of modules in the BAS unit is determined by the signal volume of the facility.

Over which protocols does SO-52v11-SC communicate with the station system?

Over DNP 3.0, PN-EN 61850 or PPM2 via the CANBUS or RS-485 bus, and operation in PRP mode is possible.
