HighPROTEC MRA4 is a protection and control terminal for medium voltage bays with a full package of current, voltage, frequency and power protections. It is installed on incomers and outgoing feeders, for network and generator protection, and at connection points of distributed generation.

Description
MRA4 from the HighPROTEC line combines protection and cell control in one device. The hardware is designed for all rated values of the input signals, and the terminal controls switching devices directly. Setting with plausibility checks quickly adapts a large set of functions to a specific bay, be it an incomer, an outgoing feeder, a network or a generator.
Phase overcurrent protection has six stages, directional and non-directional, with ANSI/IEC characteristics and the 51C/51V functions. It is complemented by wattmetric earth fault protection and two load unbalance protection stages. Voltage protection has six stages V<, V>, V<(t), and another six monitor voltage asymmetry. The fourth voltage input is used for two VE> stages or as VX for synchronism check in the generator–grid or grid–grid variants. Frequency protection has six stages (f>, f<, df/dt, vector jump), frequency measurement and ROCOF are configurable, and the accuracy is 5 mHz in the range 45–55 Hz. Six power protection stages work as P>, P<, Pr, Q>, Q<, Qr, S> or S<. There is a limit on the maximum exported power and two power factor stages.
The grid connection package is collected in one menu. It includes non-selective load shedding depending on the direction of active power, high voltage ride through HVRT and fault ride through FRT/LVRT with adjustable profiles and coordination with auto-reclosing, Q-U protection, automatic reconnection, frequency protection, transfer trip to the circuit breaker and synchronism check through a transformer. For energy metering, load peak recording is provided.
The terminal runs on a dual-core processor. Communication is via Modbus, Profibus, DNP3.0, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103 and IEC 60870-5-104 with individual data point assignment, time is synchronized via SNTP and IRIG-B, and cybersecurity functions are provided. Non-volatile recorders store waveforms for 120 s, 20 faults, 300 events and a trend of 4000 records. The Smart view SE software is free of charge for all HighPROTEC devices, and all protection functions are included in the basic delivery under the all-inclusive concept. Typical installation places are switchgear cells of distribution and industrial networks, substation incomers, generator bays and connection points of distributed generation.
