SCN — gas slam-shut valve for medium pressure networks, up to 16 bar
SCN is a slam-shut valve with a design pressure of up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar) and a top entry body. It immediately shuts off the gas if the pressure downstream of the regulator goes beyond the set points. It is used in medium and low pressure distribution networks, at PRS and gas regulating installations.

Description
SCN is a slam-shut valve for medium and low pressure natural gas distribution networks. Its task is to immediately stop the gas supply if the pressure downstream of the regulator rises above or falls below the set point, and so to protect gas pipelines, gas-using equipment and consumers. Typical installation sites are network and industrial PRS, gas regulating installations of power plants and gas engine units, heavy and medium industry sites, commercial consumers, and regasification and reverse flow points.
Tripping takes less than 1 second. The setting is made by a pressostatic device that monitors the pressure downstream of the valve. The valve can also be closed manually with a button on the pressure switch or remotely by a signal from the control system. Reopening (resetting) is done by hand only, after the cause of tripping has been found and eliminated. The top entry design simplifies maintenance without removing the body. The design pressure of the valve is up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar).
The over pressure set point (OPSO) is set from 2.5 kPa to 0.5 MPa (from 25 mbar to 5 bar), and the under pressure set point (UPSO) from 1 kPa to 0.3 MPa (from 10 mbar to 3 bar). The valve therefore protects both medium pressure networks and the outlet headers of PRS that feed low pressure networks. The AG accuracy class is up to 2.5 for OPSO and up to 5 for UPSO. Nominal sizes are DN 25, 40, 50, 65, 80, 100, 150 and 200 (from 1″ to 8″). The connection is flanged, class 150 RF per ASME B16.5 and PN 16 per ISO 7005, with the face-to-face length per EN 14382.
The ambient and gas temperature is from −20 to +60 °C. The body is made of ASTM A216 WCB cast steel for all sizes, or of GS 400-18 ductile iron per ISO 1083 up to and including DN 150. The stem guide and obturator are AISI 416, the seat is AISI 420 and the seals are NBR. The valve is designed to EN 14382 and certified to PED 2014/68/EU. Bubble-tight sealing is better than class VIII per ANSI/FCI 70-3. Options include a built-in bypass, a test button, a limit switch and remote tripping. The valve is compatible with biomethane and with natural gas and hydrogen blends up to 20 %, with higher shares on request.
