Description
The S26 valve is certified to the PED directive. It is installed in regulator units of gas distribution and industrial systems for natural gas, manufactured gas, LPG and other non-corrosive, pre-filtered gases. The direct-acting design is made so that operation is as simple as possible. If the monitored pressure downstream of the regulator goes outside the set range, the valve automatically shuts off the gas supply. Tripping is possible on overpressure (OPSO) or on overpressure and underpressure (OPSO/UPSO). A direct-acting valve trips from the monitored pressure itself, without auxiliary energy. The choice between OPSO and OPSO/UPSO depends on whether protection against a pressure drop downstream of the regulator is needed.
The valves are designed for an inlet pressure of 6 or 20 bar. The monitored pressure range from 10 to 4000 mbar corresponds to the outlet pressures of the S21–S24 and 949 regulators of the same line. Operating temperature is from −20 to +60 °C, in some versions from −30 °C. The sizes cover a capacity from Cg 160 to Cg 3380: threaded connections 1″×1″ and 1″×1½″, flanged DN40, DN50 and DN80. The body is of painted cast iron, the diaphragm of certified NBR rubber or rubberized fabric. To order, the valve is equipped with a magnetic position sensor that sends the trip signal to the telemetry system.
In a typical pressure reduction station scheme the S26 stands upstream of the regulator. Together with the S27 relief valve it forms a system protecting a low- or medium-pressure network against an unacceptable pressure rise. The relief valve vents small volumes of gas during short-term surges, and the slam-shut valve switches the line off when the regulator fails seriously. Built-in SSVs are also used in versions B and MB of the S21–S25 regulators. A separate S26 valve is installed when the regulator is already mounted without a built-in SSV, or when protection is needed at a different pressure than that of the regulator.
The manufacturer, founded in 1949 in Forbach (France), has made this line the reference for natural gas regulation and metering since 2012. Production is located in France, Italy and India.
