Description
Norval is a direct-acting gas pressure regulator for medium and low pressure natural gas distribution networks. It works with pre-filtered gases and under EN 334 is classified as normally open (Fail Open). There is no pilot system, so setting and maintenance are simpler, and the range of sizes covers tasks from small cabinet pressure reduction stations to network stations with high flow rates.
Design pressure is up to 18.9 bar. Inlet pressure bpu depends on the size: for sizes up to 3″ it is from 0.1 to 18.9 bar, and for 4″, 6″ and 8″ from 0.1 to 8.6 bar. Outlet pressure Wd for sizes up to 4″ is from 0.008 to 4.4 bar, and for 6″ and 8″ from 0.012 to 1.8 bar. So both low pressure for city networks and medium pressure for industrial consumers can be obtained at the outlet.
Nominal sizes are 1″, 1½″, 2″, 2½″, 3″, 4″, 6″ and 8″. Connections are class 150 RF flanges per ASME B16.5 and PN 16 per ISO 7005. Accuracy class AC is up to 5, which corresponds to accuracy of up to 1 % of absolute pressure depending on conditions, and lock-up pressure class SG is up to 10. Design temperature is from −20 to +60 °C.
The configuration may include a silencer, a safety shut-off valve, a monitor and an upside-down version; permissible combinations are given in the technical manual. The regulator is marked as Hydrogen Ready for natural gas and hydrogen blends, and a separate Norval H model with a compatibility declaration is available for 100 % hydrogen.
Typical use is in pressure reduction stations and units at the outlet of medium-pressure networks, supply to boiler houses, industrial furnaces and commercial facilities, and the second stage of reduction after GDS. Inlet pressure above 5 kPa places the item in the medium pressure equipment category.
