Description
RSM 200 is installed in the same way as a turbine meter but technically surpasses it: it has no moving parts, needs no maintenance, runs on a battery and has numerous electronic interfaces and a built-in volume corrector. The manufacturer calls it the little brother of the long-established high-accuracy ultrasonic meters for high-pressure networks. The meter is based on the transit-time method, meaning that the difference in transit time of an ultrasonic pulse with and against the flow between a pair of transducers is determined. It is produced in the versions RSM 200 VM, VMF, VC and VCF, where the letter F denotes custody transfer metering.
Inside the housing there are three sections: an inlet with a flow straightener optimized by computational fluid dynamics methods, a measuring cell with ultrasonic sensors, and an outlet with a built-in temperature sensor. The measuring path is laid out on the Gaussian integration principle with a double reflection, and the second path covers other zones of the cross-section and compensates for the influence of flow swirl. Parameters that depend on gas composition do not enter the flow calculation. RSM 200 is designed for unidirectional measurement of dry gases with a hydrogen content of up to 10 mol. %. The meter has passed tests under OIML R137-1&2 class 1 with weak and strong flow disturbances, and with small and moderate disturbances it needs no straight pipe runs. Pressure loss is lower than in a comparable turbine (a factor of about 3000 against 5000).
The sizes range from DN 50 (Qmax 160 m³/h) to DN 200 (Qmax 2500 m³/h), with connections PN 10, PN 16 and ANSI 150. Accuracy class 1.0 means ±1 % from Qt to Qmax and ±2 % from Qmin to Qt. After high-pressure calibration the typical limits are ±0.5 % and ±1 % respectively, with reproducibility no worse than ±0.1 %. The built-in approved corrector under EN 12405, with an EDT 96 digital pressure sensor and a temperature sensor, calculates the standard volume, and the compressibility factor is taken according to SGERG88, AGA8 Gross M1/M2 and AGA NX19.
The outputs are LF, HF, alarm and 4–20 mA current (optional), with RS 485 Modbus and DSfG (instance F) interfaces. Power comes from 3.6 V lithium batteries throughout the whole verification interval (at least five years) or from an external supply. The explosion protection is II 2 G Ex ia IIC T4 Gb, and the meter is approved for zones 1 and 2. Approvals are MID 2014/32/EU, PED 2014/68/EU, ATEX 2014/34/EU and EMC, with a design in line with DIN ISO 17089. Parameterization and remote diagnostics are carried out with the manufacturer's RSM software.
