CZAK-04 — intrinsically safe data and signal converter RS-GAZ2 / RS-232 / RS-485
The CZAK-04 is a data and signaling converter that links the devices of a gas metering station in a hazardous area with modems, telemechanics controllers and automation systems in the safe area. The converter transmits digital data and discrete sensor signals and powers intrinsically safe devices. It is installed outside the hazardous area on a TS-35 DIN rail.

Description
Battery-powered volume correctors, recorders and other devices of the gas metering station are connected to the intrinsically safe side. The intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe sides are galvanically isolated, so grounding of the converter is not required. Under ATEX the converter is associated apparatus that is operated outside the hazardous area. Intrinsically safe circuits can be led into zones 0, 1 and 2 and combined with the CMK-03 and CMK-02 correctors, the CRP-03 recorder, the CRI-02 pulse recorders and devices of other manufacturers, if their intrinsic safety parameters are compatible with the circuits of the CZAK-04.
The intrinsically safe side has an RS-GAZ2 port (V+ supply and RS-485 lines A, B) and two discrete inputs IN1 and IN2, contact or NAMUR. The NAMUR inputs are active and power sensors with a voltage of 8.2 V. On the safe area side there is one RS-232 or RS-485 channel with a speed of up to 115 200 bit/s and two open collector discrete outputs with a frequency of up to 5 kHz. The supply is from any DC source of 9–30 V.
The polyamide case is ventilated, has a degree of protection of IP20, dimensions of 114.5×110×23 mm and a weight of 0.2 kg. Pluggable terminal blocks make installation and wire connection easier, and a front panel with LEDs simplifies commissioning and diagnostics. The converter works at temperatures from −30 to +60 °C and a relative humidity of up to 95% at 60 °C without condensation. The cable of intrinsically safe circuits is laid permanently with protection against mechanical damage. The radial insulation thickness of each core is at least 0.2 mm, and the electric strength of the insulation is at least 500 V core-to-earth and at least 1000 V AC core-to-core.
The versions differ in intrinsic safety parameters and composition. The U is intended for devices of the same manufacturer with marking II (1)G [Ex ia] IIB, the P for devices of other manufacturers with higher parameters and marking II (1)G [Ex ia] IIA, the T has an RS-232/485 transmission channel, and the S has a dual signaling channel. The certificate is 1453 KDB 07 ATEX 0003X, with compliance to EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-11. The converter is installed in telemetry cabinets of gas regulator and gas distribution stations, at metering stations of industrial consumers and in dispatching systems of gas distribution networks.

Questions and answers
Into which hazardous zones can the intrinsically safe circuits of the CZAK-04 be led?
The RS-GAZ2 circuits and the IN1, IN2 inputs are led into zones 0, 1 and 2. The converter itself is installed outside the hazardous area.
What is the data transmission speed on the safe area side?
The RS-232 or RS-485 channel works at a speed of up to 115 200 bit/s. There are also two open collector discrete outputs of up to 5 kHz.
How do the U and P versions differ?
The U version has marking II (1)G [Ex ia] IIB and works with devices of the same manufacturer. The P version with marking II (1)G [Ex ia] IIA is intended for devices of other manufacturers with higher intrinsic safety parameters.
