PCS-996R / PCS-996RC / PCS-986 disturbance recorders (DFR) and the PCS-9013 management system
Disturbance recorders capture electrical parameters and the sequence of events during faults and disturbances in the power system. They combine scattered records of individual protection terminals into a single picture of the process and simplify fault analysis, verification of protection and automation operation, and investigation of incidents. The line is complemented by the PCS-9013 system, which manages the recorders of substations and power plants.

Description
The PCS-996R works as a multifunction recorder for substations. One unit has 48 analog and 60 binary channels, and time is synchronized from an external source. Several recording modes are provided. Fault recording runs at 9600 Hz for short transients, continuous recording at 1200 Hz for medium-term dynamic processes, and slow recording at 1–50 Hz for long-term power quality monitoring. A separate selective recording automatically extracts the channels of the faulted bay into a compact file.
Recording is triggered by exceeding and jumps of phase voltages and currents, negative- and zero-sequence voltage and current, frequency deviation and df/dt, power swings and changes of binary inputs. Continuous 24-hour recording is possible.
The PCS-996RC is built as a distributed recorder. The PCS-996RC control unit is connected by point-to-point optical links to the PCS-996RA acquisition units, each of which has 48 analog and 96 binary channels. A typical configuration consists of one control unit and two acquisition units (96 analog and 192 binary channels), and the maximum one of four acquisition units, up to 192 analog and 384 binary channels. Continuous recording runs around the clock at 1000 Hz for a 50 Hz network with an archive of up to 7 days, and long-term recording of RMS values at 1 Hz is stored for up to 3 months.
The PCS-986 records the parameters of generator-transformer units and the operation of protection and control devices at power plants. Besides voltage and current triggers, it starts on a jump in and exceeding of the limits of the DC component, the third harmonic, overexcitation, reverse power, differential current of transformers, the generator or the excitation transformer, and low-frequency overcurrent during unit start-up and shutdown. The block architecture allows hardware and software to be expanded, and a 16-bit parallel ADC digitizes all channels simultaneously.
The PCS-9013 manages recorders centrally or in a distributed way. The system collects data from up to 1500 recorders over IEC 61850, FTP and IEC 60870-5-103, performs configuration and setting changes, status monitoring, remote control, synchronization and reset, waveform analysis, sends notifications by e-mail and SMS and has web access. All records are stored in COMTRADE format, and time is synchronized over IRIG-B.
