Metris DiOMera: monitoring, diagnostics and maintenance platform for hydropower plants
Metris DiOMera is a modular digital IIoT platform for the operation and maintenance of hydropower plants. It indicates when and to what extent work should be carried out, to cut costs and raise equipment availability within environmental and operating constraints.

Description
The platform combines data from the units and existing plant systems with the manufacturer's many years of engineering experience and data analysis methods. On this basis the remaining life and the overall condition of the electromechanical equipment are assessed more accurately. Maintenance becomes targeted: it is planned by the condition and life of components, not by the calendar. The set of modules is selected for the requirements of a particular customer, and the platform supports operational control of the plant and takes environmental requirements into account.
Data are collected in dashboards and reports seen by plant personnel. Capabilities are extended step by step, from continuous monitoring of key performance indicators (KPI) to adaptive optimization of the operating modes of several units and even several plants. Separately, the platform monitors, diagnoses and analyzes specific conditions, for example seasonal sediment flow and cavitation. The interface includes a generator capability diagram and a turbine efficiency characteristic (hill chart), so the operator sees how far the unit operates from its best point.
Optimization is divided into three levels. Level 1 is responsible for safe and economical operation within set limits and relies on monitoring of signals and trends, dashboards and KPI reports. Level 2 adds diagnostics and recommendations on operating modes, inspection intervals, maintenance and repairs, generated from real-time data, trend analysis and experience. Level 3 works as an intelligent optimization and predictive maintenance system that estimates failure risk and remaining life.
On request, key indicators and trends are monitored remotely through secure access. The manufacturer's specialists are available for scheduled inspections and troubleshooting. DiOMera online monitoring is also offered for air-cooled and hydrogen-cooled turbogenerators, which the manufacturer designs and builds at its plant in Weiz (Austria).
The quality and environmental management systems of the division that carries out research, development, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and service of hydropower equipment are certified by Quality Austria to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The certificates are valid together with the main certificates Q-29731/1 and U-04883/1, and their validity is maintained by annual surveillance audits and recertification every three years.
