MV-CONNEX is a dry separable system of outer cone cable connectors for medium-voltage networks at 24–52 kV and 250–1250 A. The range covers five sizes from 0 to 3-S. The connectors are fitted to RMU, circuit-breaker switchgear, transformers, high-voltage motors and capacitors, where a fully insulated, touch-proof cable connection is required.

Description
The insulation of all MV-CONNEX products is made of silicone rubber, mostly liquid silicone rubber (LSR). This material is softer than rigid compounds, so it better smooths out temperature fluctuations and irregularities of the cable surface and prevents partial discharges from forming in air inclusions. The connector is fully insulated, has a metal housing that is touch-proof, watertight and suitable for outdoor installation. No maintenance is needed in service.
The system is used in RMU, circuit-breaker switchgear, high-voltage motors, transformers, capacitors, instrument transformers and cable boxes. The equipment-side interfaces comply with EN 50180, EN 50181 and DIN 47637, and the plug fits any cables with plastic insulation. Structurally, the connector consists of a contact system with a contact ring, a tensioning cone and a thrust part, an insulating and field-controlling part, and a housing with a bell-shaped flange, a pressure sleeve, a spring, a heat-shrink tube and a screen terminal. There is no liquid insulating material, the cable joint is not opened on site, and transformers and switchgear can be fully tested at the factory. Oil and gas work during installation and commissioning is eliminated.
The range contains five sizes. Size 0 is rated for Um 24 kV and 250 A, size 1 for 36 kV and 630 A, size 2 for 42 kV and 800 A, size 3 for 42 kV and 1250 A, and size 3-S for 52 kV and 1250 A. The lightning impulse level is from 125 to 250 kV, and the AC test voltage for 5 minutes is from 54 to 117 kV. Partial discharges at 2·U0 do not exceed 10 pC, and the short-time current for 1 s reaches from 16 to 60 kA. Type tests were carried out to IEC 60502-4:2005 and DIN VDE 0278-629-1:2006. Depending on the size and conductor type, the conductor cross-section is in the range of 16–1000 mm².
Standard part numbers are designed for DIN VDE cables with round stranded aluminium or copper conductors and are supplied as a set of three. Versions with capacitive voltage tap, three-core, ground-resistant and marine versions are selected with the configurator. The contact system is installed with a special tool, and the work is done by qualified personnel. The manufacturer trains and certifies installers, and the certificate is valid for 5 years. Accessories include blanking plugs for sealing live sockets, protective caps, test and adapter connectors, sockets for cable testing, test cables, installation tools and special grease.
