LINKBOX – terminal boxes for earthing and screen transposition of HV and EHV cables, IP66 / IP68
LINKBOX terminal boxes provide protected and accessible connection points between the screens of HV and EHV cables and the earthing system near terminations. They also connect the screens of straight joints in transposition (cross-bonding) schemes. Boxes for single-core cables up to 500 mm² are made to order for a specific project for all types of terminations and joints.
- Purpose
- earthing and cross-bonding of HV/EHV cable screens near terminations and joints
- Cables
- single-core and coaxial, up to 500 mm²
- Degree of protection
- IP66 (wall-mounted), IP68 (underground)
- Housing material
- AISI 304 / AISI 316L stainless steel, polyester

Description
The boxes earth cable systems according to various schemes. In this way equipment and people are protected against destructive currents and overvoltages, and electromagnetic interference is limited. The second task is transposition of the screens of straight joints, which reduces losses from induced currents in long AC cable lines. The screens of each phase are separated at certain points, led out of the joint and connected to the screens of the same phase of other joints. Surge arresters can be fitted in the box next to the equipment, for example with single-end screen earthing to protect the unearthed side. Through the box it is convenient to reach the screens for tests, fault location and partial discharge measurement.
Contact is made with SICON connectors with shear bolts. Boxes for terminations come in single-phase and three-phase versions for single-core cables up to 500 mm². They are wall-mounted, with degree of protection IP66, and the housing is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, AISI 316L marine stainless steel or strong polyester. Boxes for straight joints are rated for single-core and coaxial cables up to 500 mm². They are wall-mounted with IP66 or underground up to IP68, and support direct earthing, screen transposition or earthing combined with arrester protection. On request, removable disconnecting links, a lock, partial discharge sensors and compound filling are added.
The built-in metal-oxide arresters of classes SVL-DH and SL to IEC 60099-4 have a rated voltage from 1.2 to 12 kV and a continuous operating voltage from 1.0 to 9.6 kV. The box designation is composed of a code, for example LINKBOX W.X.8.1.S3.E1.0000.M40.M40.x. It encodes the installation type, the material, the screen treatment method, the cable type, the number of entries (1, 3 or 6), the earthing cable connection inside or outside, the arrester voltage and the cable gland sizes from M16 to M70.
Enclosure tightness, short-circuit withstand and dielectric strength are tested to IEC standards. The boxes have passed numerous qualification tests at customers.
