VORTX, DOGBONE and Hydro-Québec stockbridge-type vibration dampers for conductors and OPGW
Stockbridge-type aeolian vibration dampers VORTX, DOGBONE and Hydro-Québec for conductors, ground wires and OPGW. VORTX with weights of different mass covers a wider frequency range than symmetrical Stockbridge dampers.
- VORTX
- asymmetric weights for extended frequency range, aluminum alloy clamp, galvanized messenger
- DOGBONE
- bone-shaped weights on a 19-wire messenger, for ground wires
- Hydro-Québec
- elastomer mechanism without messenger, for icing and corrosive areas
- Installation
- by hand or under voltage; helical-rod versions for OPGW

Description
VORTX has asymmetric weights, an aluminum alloy clamp and a galvanized messenger. DOGBONE, with bone-shaped weights on a 19-wire messenger, is installed on ground wires. The Hydro-Québec model works on an elastomer mechanism without a messenger and suits icing and corrosive areas. The clamp profile is made to IEC. Installation is by hand or under voltage, and versions with helical rods are available for OPGW.

Questions and answers
How does VORTX differ from a standard Stockbridge damper?
VORTX has asymmetric weights of different mass, so it covers a wider frequency range. Its clamp is aluminum alloy and its messenger is galvanized.
Which damper should be chosen for an icing area?
The Hydro-Québec model, with an elastomer mechanism and no messenger. It is used in icing and corrosive areas.
Are there versions for OPGW?
Yes, versions with helical rods are produced for OPGW. DOGBONE on a 19-wire messenger is installed on ground wires.
