Splice / Dead-End Shunt for overheated compression splices and dead-end clamps
The spiral shunt is installed over an overheated compression connector or dead-end clamp. It restores up to 100% conductivity and part of the mechanical strength of the joint.
- Purpose
- restoring conductivity of defective compression splices and tension clamps
- Conductivity
- up to 100%
- Heat resistance
- 125 °C (ACSR, AAC, AAAC), 250 °C (ACSS, ACCR)
- Material
- high-strength, highly conductive aluminum alloy with conductive abrasive inside

Description
A defective joint is found as overheated during thermal imaging inspection, after which the shunt is installed. The shunt is made of a high-strength, highly conductive aluminum alloy with a conductive abrasive applied inside. Heat resistance is 125 °C for ACSR, AAC and AAAC conductors and 250 °C for ACSS and ACCR. Installation is done by hand or with insulated hot sticks, and the line does not need to be de-energized.
