Description
The company has developed and produced overhead line fittings since its foundation in 1921. Its developments include corona-free suspension clamps, reinforced tension clamps, and insulator set fittings resistant to short circuit and arc. The company's sets operate on all continents, from the tropics and deserts to regions with very low temperatures.
The design takes into account the required insulation level, the permissible levels of corona and radio interference (RIV), resistance to power arc and short-circuit current, the pollution class and the mechanical strength class. The design must be economical, easy to assemble with reproducible results, and have corrosion-resistant components and high-quality contacts. The fittings are required to provide protection against corona and arc, low radio interference, a more even voltage distribution along the insulators and the absence of discharges that cause erosion of insulators and fittings. Special versions form a separate area. These are lightweight and compact designs, sets of very high strength, for very long spans, high suspension points and non-standard string configurations. Completed work includes double suspension and tension sets for 420 kV, an insulating cross-arm for 420 kV for an emergency tower, 500 kN tension sets for 420 kV and sets for 765 kV lines.
Suspension clamps are of the trunnion type, with armour grip, and shielded (envelope) for increased corona requirements. For tension sets three systems are offered, namely compression, bolted and wedge clamps. The main method of the company is hexagonal crimping, which it has been developing since the mid-1960s. Compression clamps of aluminium alloy are used up to 1000 kN and are made for all conductor types. During the development of fittings the mechanical and electrical characteristics, the interaction with the conductor and insulator, corrosion resistance and ease of assembly are checked.
The sets are tested in the company's own high-voltage laboratory in Altdorf (Switzerland). It has an AC voltage source up to 1000 kV, an impulse generator up to 1600 kV and a salt fog chamber. Some of the tests are carried out in independent accredited laboratories in Europe. For calculations, FEM programs and transient load simulation are used.
