Description
Toughened glass disc insulators are used in suspension and tension strings of high and extra-high voltage overhead lines, as well as DC lines. They work across a wide range of voltages and environmental conditions and fit easily into existing line designs and utility standards.
Each disc undergoes controlled thermal toughening, so it has high mechanical strength and stable electrical characteristics. Glass does not age, so insulation properties are kept throughout the service life. The design is fail-safe. If a disc is damaged, it breaks, which gives an immediate visual indication and speeds up the search for defects during line patrols, while the insulator keeps its mechanical integrity and the string does not fall. High strength reduces the risk of damage under load and during installation.
The ANSI range includes MG523Z (class 52-3H, coupling B, 98 kN), MG525Z (52-5H, J, 133 kN), MG528Z (52-8H, K, 178 kN) and MG5211Z (52-11, K, 222 kN). The IEC range includes MG300Z (coupling 24, 300 kN), MG420Z (28, 420 kN) and MG550Z (32, 550 kN). Control mechanical load is 49–275 kN, impact strength 400 in·lb, disc diameter 255–360 mm, construction height 146–240 mm and creepage distance 321–635 mm. Dry flashover voltage is 80–90 kV, wet 50–55 kV, critical impulse 125–150 kV and puncture 130 kV, with a radio interference level of not more than 50 µV.
According to the drawings, MG300Z has a dry flashover voltage of 85 kV and wet of 50 kV, MG420Z and MG550Z have 90 and 55 kV, and CIFO +/− is 140 kV against a puncture voltage of 130 kV. MG523Z shows 80 and 50 kV, and CIFO +125 kV and −130 kV. The radio interference level does not exceed 50 µV at a test voltage of 10 kV.
Manufacturing follows ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 systems. All insulators undergo 100% acceptance mechanical and electrical tests and three-cycle thermal shock tests before shipment. Standard, fog (FOG) profile and silicone-coated versions are produced for polluted areas.
