3FL / 3FS / 3FT — composite line and post insulators up to 800 kV

3FL, 3FS and 3FT are composite insulators with a continuous silicone housing for overhead lines and substations up to 800 kV. The long-rod 3FL work in overhead line strings, and the post insulators 3FS and 3FT are installed in substations indoors and outdoors. They are designed and tested to IEC and ANSI standards.

Description

The company's composite insulator combines high dielectric strength and mechanical resistance in a light continuous silicone housing. The body is made as one piece, so the design is compact and light. The company has made medium- and high-voltage surge arresters since 1925, and composite insulators are produced in the same line of business and at the same plants. The end fittings are sealed in one of two ways, the choice depending on customer requirements.

Long-rod insulators 3FL are intended for overhead lines. They cover voltage classes up to 800 kV and work in suspension and tension strings of 35–750 kV overhead lines. Post insulators 3FS and 3FT are used in substations, with versions for indoor and outdoor installation. They provide the supporting insulation of substation equipment. The long-rod design replaces a string of many separate elements with one product, which simplifies installation and inspection of the line.

The silicone shed keeps its hydrophobicity throughout the service life. The material resists ultraviolet, pollution and erosion, so the insulators are appropriate in coastal and industrial areas. All products are designed and tested to the current editions of IEC and ANSI standards.

The company is one of the few suppliers offering both insulators and NGLA and EGLA line arresters for overhead lines. The two products are technically matched, so the designer gets the insulation and the line overvoltage protection from one manufacturer. On this basis the company offers line compaction and raising of line capacity (uprating). Details of such projects are not disclosed in the materials provided.

Insulators and arresters are made at two plants, in Berlin (Germany) and in Wuxi (China). The global competence center is in Berlin, and technical support of projects is provided by the local office of the company. Mechanical load, creepage distance and sizes are not given in the materials provided and are specified on request for a particular line or substation. Typical applications are suspension and tension strings of overhead lines, supporting insulation of substations, and line compaction and upgrade projects.
