Description
The SPC01 power control box from KSTAR performs power limitation or zero export in accordance with local grid codes. It works with KSTAR three-phase grid-tied photovoltaic inverters of 3–125 kW, and communication runs over the RS-485 interface. A built-in smart meter measures power in real time on the grid connection side of the plant. Export limitation is needed where the grid operator sets a feed-in limit or prohibits it altogether. Therefore the box stands between the inverters and the connection point and regulates their power according to the readings of the built-in meter. Paired with KSTAR inverters, a communication range of up to 1000 m is important for large distributed plants, where the inverters are located far from the connection point.
The box is designed for large distributed plants. Up to 80 inverters can be connected to one SPC01. For this there are 5 RS-485 ports, and each terminal serves up to 16 inverters. The length of the communication line to the inverters reaches 1000 m, so the box can be placed near the connection point, rather than next to each inverter.
The response time of the zero export function is less than 2 s, and the regulation accuracy is 3 %, which meets the requirements of the grid codes. For safety, automatic shutdown is provided when communication with the inverters is lost. Firmware is updated remotely, and operating data is transmitted to a cloud server in real time.
For local commissioning there is Bluetooth and light status indication, so the installer sees the status of the box without a laptop. The input voltage is 230 V (L-N) / 400 V (L-L), the range is 173–480 V, the frequency is 45–65 Hz, and the connection is 3W+N+PE. The enclosure has an IP65 protection rating, is suitable for outdoor installation, and is mounted on a wall or in a rack.
Application: rooftop and ground-mounted solar plants connected to grids with export limitation, where connection is impossible or unprofitable without power control. According to the manufacturer description, the box is suitable for residential, commercial and industrial solar systems. The box works both on a roof and on the ground, and the equipment is fixed on a wall or in a rack next to the inverters.
