Description
The KSM-SCS-04 from KSTAR works as the communication station of a large photovoltaic power plant. The box collects data from several inverter sub-arrays, as well as from transformers, power meters and PID units, and transmits it to SCADA over a fiber optic ring. The operator gets centralized monitoring and control of the whole plant from one communication channel. The manufacturer page describes the KSM-SCS-04 as a smart communication station for large photovoltaic power plants. It combines a data collector with RS-485 ports, two CAN ports, PLC ports and a fiber optic ring, and connects inverters, transformers, power meters and PID units to SCADA. This structure is needed at extended plants, where data arrives from many points.
The box combines PLC and PID functions. The voltage rating of 800 V AC allows it to be used both for power line communication (PLC) and for recovery after the PID effect, without installing additional equipment. Inside there is a built-in data collector KSM-DCU-04.
The set of interfaces of the KSTAR box includes 8 RS-485 ports, 2 CAN ports, one PLC port, 4 Fast Ethernet ports, 16 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs. There is one pair of the fiber optic ring, and 4G communication is optional. The optical channel operates at a center wavelength of 1310 nm and transmits data over a distance of up to 20 km. For large plants, such a backbone is immune to interference and fast, and the ring structure preserves communication when one section is broken.
The power supply is 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz. The enclosure has an IP65 protection rating and is designed for an operating temperature of −20…+55 °C at a humidity of 5–95 % without condensation, that is, it is suitable for harsh outdoor conditions. The dimensions are 540 × 670 × 290 mm and the weight is 31 kg. Cables enter from the bottom, and maintenance is carried out from the front. The box is mounted on a bracket, a wall or a pole.
Application of the KSTAR box: industrial and commercial solar power plants, where dozens of inverters need to be joined into a single network and brought out to the dispatch level. The box can be hung near the inverter area, and all devices of the plant reach the control room over one pair of optical fibers.
